Job summary

Virginia Paving Company in Norfolk, VA is seeking a skilled Roller Operator to safely compress dirt, aggregate, or blacktop using rollers or drums, with occasional use of the vibration component.

You will read grade stakes, work with grade checkers and GPS/laser guidance, coordinate with crew, perform daily inspections, and keep equipment, site, and safety practices in top condition. This is a full-time, hourly seasonal role with benefits.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED preferred.
• Three to five years of industry experience required, with roads/bridges emphasis.
• Ability to understand directions and communicate with supervisors and crew.

Responsibilities

• Safely operates roller to compact dirt, aggregate, or blacktop to achieve grading and smooth surfaces.
• Reads grade stakes and works with grade checker, laser, or GPS to maintain grade.
• Determines speed and direction of roller based on material to achieve a smooth surface.
• Coordinates with crew using hand signals and maintains safety.
• Performs daily inspections and reports maintenance needs.
• Maintains clean, safe work area and prepares equipment for transport when needed.
