Registered Nurse (RN) - New Life Center – Labor & Delivery

Akron General is a designated Baby-Friendly birth facility with a comprehensive team including physicians, nurses, anesthesia experts, neonatologists, and pregnancy specialists. The team emphasizes safe, quality care, low C-section rates, kangaroo care, and breastfeeding support. The New Life Center is a Level III Perinatal Center, equipped for routine and high-risk deliveries, including on-site Level III NICU, ensuring high-level obstetric care.

Work Schedule

This position involves day shifts from 7:00 am to 7:30 pm with on-call requirements.

Ideal Candidate Responsibilities

1. Provide direct nursing care.
2. Assess, plan, implement, and evaluate care for assigned patients.
3. Complete ongoing assessments, recognize changes, and respond appropriately.
4. Develop and update care goals, involve patients and families, coordinate interdisciplinary plans, and advocate for patients.
5. Administer treatments, medications, document care.
6. Participate in interdisciplinary evaluation, quality improvement, and care enhancement.
7. Delegate tasks, serve as a resource, pursue ongoing education, maintain certifications, and meet unit-specific requirements.
8. Complete maternal and infant admission assessments, communicate patient information timely, serve as Unit Coordinator as needed, participate in departmental committees and presentations, utilize informatics tools, and ensure compliance with JCAHO Core Measures and patient safety goals.

Minimum Qualifications

• Graduate from an accredited nursing program.
• Current RN licensure in the state.
• BLS certification through AHA.
• ACLS certification through AHA within one year of hire.
• NRP certification through the American Academy of Pediatrics within six months of hire.

Preferred Qualifications

• Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN).
