General Summary

  • This role is considered the minimum for all nurses at UMMC with more than 12 months of experience. The nurse will be competent in required skills and knowledge, and fully participate in unit governance. They will practice and adhere to the guidelines in the UMMC Professional Nurse Job Charter. The nurse independently provides and coordinates care within a clinical specialty, serves as an effective team member, and demonstrates the full range of nursing practice. They are accountable to patients and families, peers, and the nurse manager for care outcomes, group practice advancement, and overall work performance.

Qualifications

Education and Experience

  • Successful completion of probation, current mandatory classes/training.
  • Maryland RN licensure or eligibility via Compact agreements.
  • Maintain 10 contact hours of education annually.
  • Membership in a professional organization.
  • Recent clinical experience in a comparable setting.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Leadership ability, such as charge nurse, preceptor, or clinical resource effectiveness.
  • Proficiency with computer systems for managing patient information.
  • Knowledge of care principles for the patient population served, including growth and development assessment.
  • Effective interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills.
Patient Safety
  • Ensure patient safety in job functions and participate in safety initiatives.
  • Act to correct safety risks, report adverse events and near misses, and communicate risks to management.

Compensation
