Job summary

PKF O’Connor Davies is seeking an Experienced Audit Associate to join our Public Sector practice in New Jersey. The role supports municipal, county, and school district audits with a focus on governmental accounting and GASB standards.

The ideal candidate has a foundation in accounting, strong analytical skills, and an interest in governmental auditing. Travel to client locations is required as needed.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting required.
• CPA license or working toward CPA preferred.
• 1-2 years of progressive audit experience in public accounting required.

Responsibilities

• Plan and perform audit procedures under supervision.
• Examine financial records, balances, transactions, and supporting docs.
• Prepare clear workpapers documenting procedures and conclusions.
• Assist with testing cash, receivables, expenditures, payroll, and other areas.
• Understand client operations and internal controls through inquiries and walkthroughs.
• Support audits under GAAS and GASB standards as appropriate.
• Assist with Single Audit procedures and internal controls over federal awards.
• Prepare and review financial statements, footnotes, and schedules.
• Identify discrepancies and communicate findings to supervisors.
• Maintain professional communication with clients and meet deadlines.
