Job summary

McClure Engineering seeks an Experienced Mechanical Engineer to lead design efforts for HVAC and plumbing systems in commercial, institutional, and healthcare facilities. You will coordinate with drafters and engineers, advise clients, and manage complex design challenges from field to construction.

Responsibilities include preparing diagrams, load calculations, equipment selection, and project coordination while ensuring code compliance and quality documentation.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering from an accredited university.
  • 7+ years of mechanical design experience with HVAC/plumbing focus for commercial, institutional, healthcare facilities.
  • Experience selecting equipment and troubleshooting systems.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Proficiency with MS Office (Excel, OneNote, Outlook, Word).
  • Ability to read 2D and 3D drawings.

Responsibilities
  • Perform necessary engineering functions required for the project to include field investigation, load calculations, equipment selection, system diagrams, sequence of operation and control diagrams, layouts, and specifications, while coordinating with designers, drafters, and engineers.
  • Collaborate with the mechanical Drafter/Designer on the production of construction documents (drawings and specifications).
  • Advise clients regarding mechanical systems and requirements available to meet their needs and comply with applicable codes.
  • Solve problems of a complex nature, in both the design and construction phases of a project.
  • Effectively coordinate with internal and external members of the design team, including firm staff, owners, architects, and other consultants.
  • Provide guidance to the construction team to ensure implementation of full design.
  • Maintains professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops; reviewing professional publications; establishing personal networks; participating in professional societies.
  • Perform project management activities as it relates to the mechanical discipline including reviewing and updating the budget, preparing and updating a project schedule, and establishing project communications, standards and files as necessary.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering from an accredited university required.
  • 7+ years of relevant mechanical engineering design experience with a preferred focus on HVAC and plumbing systems for commercial, institutional, and/or healthcare facilities.
  • Experience selecting equipment and troubleshooting systems preferred.
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Proficiency in MS Office - specifically Excel, OneNote, Outlook and Word.
  • Proven ability to read and understand both 2D and 3D drawings.
  • Work environment is primarily indoors at firms’ facility, with approximately 10% of time spent indoors/outdoors at project or construction sites where hard-hat and other safety gear is often required. (PPE is provided by firm.)
  • While performing field work associated with this position employee will be required to stand, walk, bend, kneel, stoop, crouch, crawl and carry and/or climb ladders of varying heights.
