Serco Inc. in Norfolk, VA seeks an Experienced Marine Electrician to support U.S. Navy shipboard electrical systems.

Work includes fabricating and assembling electromechanical assemblies, applying safety practices, and ensuring safe operations on U.S. Naval Ships and installations in Norfolk, Chesapeake, Newport News, and Portsmouth. You will join a team performing testing, wiring, and installations with a focus on quality and safety.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or equivalent required.
  • 5 years experience in electrical work in a related field or equivalent experience.
  • 5 years of shipboard experience or relevant/similar experience.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a DoD Secret Clearance.
  • Ability to obtain access to NAVSTA & DBIDS and pass drug screening.
  • OSHA 10 certification preferred.
  • Ability to work in shipyard environments and lift up to 50 lb.

Position Description & Qualifications

If you love engaging in high-profile projects supporting the U.S Navy and our U.S Naval Ships, Serco has a great opportunity for you! As the Experienced Marine Electrician, you will be part of a dynamic team supporting our US. Navy located in the beautiful surroundings of Norfolk, Virginia where your primary work location will be Norfolk, VA with the possibility of work in Chesapeake, VA, Newport News, VA, and/or Portsmouth VA. Serco supports our US Naval Ships with successful and safe work by providing cabling, equipment, and C5ISR system installations for our Military. You will join an amazing team to fabricate, and assemble various electromechanical and electronic assemblies by applying appropriate safety techniques. You play a critical role in ensuring that successful and safe work is performed on-board U.S. Naval Ships and our Military installations, which is vital to our Mission to protect and serve our Military.

In This Role You Will
  • Receive initial instructions, equipment requirements, and advice from supervisor or engineer as needed; performs recurring work independently; work is reviewed for technical adequacy or conformity with instructions including troubleshooting and correcting malfunctions.
  • Conduct various tests or experiments which may require minor modifications in test setups or procedures as well as subjective judgments in measurement; selects, sets up, and operates standard test equipment and records test data.
  • Perform assignments that are not completely standardized or prescribed such as: Constructs components, subunits, or simple models or adapts standard equipment.
  • Gather and maintains specified records of engineering data such as tests, drawings, etc.; performs computations by substituting numbers in specified formulas; plots data and draws simple curves and graphs.
  • Perform simple or routine tasks or tests such as tensile or hardness tests; operates and adjusts simple test equipment; records test data.
  • Rely on your experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals and you will typically report to a supervisor in a safe work environment.
To Be Successful In This Role You Will Have
  • The ability to obtain and maintain and active DoD Secret Clearance.
  • US Citizenship.
  • A High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • 5 years experience in electrical work in a related field or relevant/similar experience.
  • 5 years of Shipboard experience or relevant/similar experience.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain and active DoD Secret Clearance post-employment
  • Ability to obtain and gain access to shipyards (NAVSTA & DBIDS), undergo a background investigation and pass a drug screening
  • Ability to obtain an OSHA 10 certification
  • Ability to get respirator qualified and wear PPE throughout the work shift.
  • Experience managing a crew 6-10 team members of various trades.
  • A combination of experience in the following areas:
    • Competency attaching fiber optic, RJ-45, DB type connectors
    • Read drawings (Tradesman level)
    • QCI instruct of lower techs
    • Implement safety program/SRAR Qual/CP
    • Prelim QA testing, MCTs, space closeouts
    • Multipin competent
    • Elec testing reqs, i.e. ground checks, RSPT testing
    • Layout & cutting of electrical enclosures, electrical hook-ups & multiple meter knowledge
    • Reading drawings (Apprentice level)
    • Band/pack MCTs/RISE
    • Layout & mount small equipment as needed
    • Basic knowledge of tools, QA documents, meter
    • Safety: Actively participates in safety surveillances & walk-thrus
  • Familiarity with NAVSEA, standard concepts, practices, and procedures within the field of electrical repair, fabrication, and installation.
  • A Multipin Connector certification.
  • Fiber Optic certifications.
  • Ability to work in high heat spaces, climb shipyard dry dock stairs/ladders, work in kneeling position for layout of cable runs under false decking, lift up to 50 pounds with 80% of work requiring carrying, pushing, and/or pulling up to 40 pounds for majority of shift while being in a standing, crouching, or walking position.
  • Attention to safety, which is critical.
  • Ability and willing to travel up to 10% to various work sites
  • Ability to work on-site in Chesapeake, VA and travel to Newport News, VA.
Additional Desired Experience And Skills
  • An active or current DoD Secret clearance
  • An OSHA Certification
