Job summary

Serco Inc. in San Diego, CA seeks an Electrical Tradesman to support cabling, equipment, and C5ISR system installations aboard U.S. Naval Ships and military installations.

You will join the team to fabricate and assemble electromechanical components using approved safety practices. Candidates must have a High School Diploma or GED, 2 years’ shipboard experience, the ability to obtain a DoD Secret clearance, OSHA 10, and be willing to work second shift with overtime.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED required; OSHA 10 preferred or obtainable.
  • 2 years of shipboard experience installing electronic equipment, ducts, cableways, cables, and related hardware.
  • Ability to obtain DoD Secret clearance and pass background checks.
  • Must be willing to work second shift and overtime as needed.
  • Must be able to travel up to 10%.

Responsibilities

  • Assemble and disassemble large shelters, complex subassemblies, chassis and mechanical parts.
  • Review modification and rework instructions, engineering change orders and rework notices.
  • Modify or rework mechanical assemblies by removing, repairing and replacing parts, cables or harnesses.
  • Operate various power tools used in the assembly of hardware as per parts lists.
  • Follow blueprints, guidelines, and diagrams to fabricate and assemble electromechanical and electronic assemblies.
  • Work onboard U.S. Naval Ships and military installations in challenging environments and with equipment.
  • Work with blueprints and sketches to complete a range of assembly tasks.

As an Electrical Tradesman, you will work on a team supporting cabling, equipment, and C5ISR system installations, where you will join, fabricate, and assemble various electromechanical and electronic assemblies by applying appropriate safety techniques and the work is performed onboard U.S. Naval Ships and military installations. Serco works closely with the customer and other Serco team members to deliver high technology performed onboard U.S. Naval Ships and military installations. You will play a critical role in ensuring that successful and safe work is performed onboard U.S. Naval Ships and our Military installations which is vital to our Mission to protect and serve our Military.

In This Role, You Will
  • Assemble and disassemble large shelters, complex subassemblies, chassis and mechanical parts.
  • Review modification and rework instructions or discrepancy reports, engineering change orders and preliminary rework notices.
  • Modify or rework mechanical assemblies by removing, repairing and replacing parts, cables or harnesses.
  • Operate various power tools used in the assembly of all types of hardware as identified on the supplied parts lists.
  • Follow blueprints, guidelines, and/or diagrams to fabricate and assemble various electromechanical and electronic assemblies.
  • Perform work with standard concepts, practices, and procedures.
  • Work onboard U.S. Naval Ships and military installations in an area that is somewhat uncomfortable due to drafts, noise, temperature variation and the like and with equipment.
  • Work with blueprints, assembly drawings and sketches in completing a wide variety of assembly and subassembly tasks.
Role
To be successful in this role, you will have:
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a DoD Secret clearance.
  • US Citizenship.
  • Ability to obtain gain access to shipyards (NAVSTA & DBIDS), undergo a background investigation and pass a drug screening.
  • An OSHA 10 certification or able to obtain the certification.
  • A High School Diploma or GED.
  • 2 years of experience (Shipboard experience installing electronic equipment, ducts, cableways, cables, lagging highly preferred).
  • Ability to use power tools, assembling both large scale and intricate mechanical assemblies.
  • Ability to work with blueprints, assembly drawings and sketches in completing a wide variety of assembly and subassembly tasks.
  • Applicant must be able to get respirator qualified and wear proper PPE throughout their work shift.
  • Applicant must be willing to work second shift and willing to work more than 40 hours work weeks.
  • Ability to work in high heat spaces, climb shipyard dry dock stairs/ladders, work in kneeling position for layout of cable runs under false decking, lift 50 pounds with 80% of work requiring carrying, pushing, and/or pulling up to 40 pounds for majority of shift while being in a standing, crouching, or walking position.
  • Willingness to travel up to 10%.
