Job summary

City of Bellingham is seeking Experienced Firefighter and Experienced Firefighter/Paramedic for the January 2027 academy. You will respond to fires and medical calls, operate equipment, and support emergency response efforts with a team dedicated to protecting life and property.

This role requires high school diploma, NFPA 1001 Firefighter I, 2+ years of full-time experience, and CPAT clearance. The department offers competitive wages, comprehensive benefits, and retirement plans under IAFF 106.

Qualifications

• Must have a high school diploma or GED.
• Two years of full-time structural firefighter experience, with at least one year in the last three years.
• NFPA 1001 Firefighter I certification or recruit academy completion.

Responsibilities

• Respond to fires and emergencies; operate pumps, ladders and extinguishers.
• Provide basic/advanced life support and medical care.
• Maintain communications with dispatch and use incident command system.
• Drive apparatus and transport patients when required.
• Inspect buildings for hazards and contribute to pre-incident planning.
