Job summary

Drake Companies in De Kalb, Texas is seeking a skilled Dozer/Excavator Operator to join our highway construction team. This role supports earthwork, drainage, and grading on TxDOT and heavy civil projects.

The ideal candidate has at least 3 years of experience with dozers and excavators, can read grade stakes and plans, and works safely in outdoor conditions. Reliability and the ability to operate with minimal supervision are required. This is not an entry-level position.

Qualifications

• Minimum of 3 years of experience operating dozers and excavators on highway/ heavy civil projects.
• Experience with earthwork, grading, drainage installation, and site preparation.
• Ability to read grade stakes and understand construction plans/specifications.
• Experience with GPS-guided equipment/machine control systems preferred.
• Knowledge of TxDOT specifications and practices is a plus.
• Strong safety, quality, and productivity focus.
• Ability to work outdoors in varying weather and site conditions.
• Reliable transportation and attendance required.

Responsibilities

• Safely and efficiently operate dozers and excavators on highway and heavy civil construction projects.
• Perform excavation, grading, ditching, slope work, embankment construction, and material handling activities.
• Read and interpret grade stakes, site plans, and project specifications.
• Utilize GPS and machine control systems when applicable.
• Maintain proper grades and elevations to meet project requirements and quality standards.
• Work safely around underground utilities, structures, crews, and live traffic.
• Conduct daily equipment inspections and report maintenance or repair needs promptly.
• Perform routine equipment servicing and preventive maintenance checks.
• Collaborate with foremen, superintendents, and other crew members to achieve daily production objectives.
• Follow all company safety policies, OSHA regulations, and TxDOT project requirements.
• Assist with other construction-related duties as assigned.
