Job summary

Framatome in Lynchburg, VA is seeking an Experienced Core Design / Neutronics Engineer to contribute to LWR core design, neutronics analyses, and safety assessments on critical nuclear projects. This onsite role leverages proven expertise with fuel assemblies and lattice design.

You will design and optimize fuel assemblies, calculate core parameters, document results, and ensure compliance with regulations and standards.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering.
  • Minimum of 7 years of related experience.
  • Advanced knowledge of related engineering standards and criteria.
  • Excellent communication skills to convey technical data.
  • Experience with specialized software tools and programming languages.

Responsibilities

  • Design cross sections of fuel assemblies and lattice designs for LWRs.
  • Design and shuffle fuel assemblies to meet energy and safety goals.
  • Calculate neutronics parameters and document results.
  • Propose solutions and work autonomously on assignments.
  • Ensure compliance with regulations and engineering standards.
  • Develop new methods or models to provide value to customers.

What You'll Do Day-To-Day
  • Creating cross sections of various fuel assembly lattice designs to support one of the many light water reactors that Framatome is the fuel vendor for.
  • Designing new and shuffling old fuel assemblies in a pattern that leads to optimal energy requirements while maintaining safety parameters.
  • Calculating neutronics parameters, providing inputs for downstream analyses, and documenting the analyzed results.
  • Propose solutions and work scope to supervisor, works autonomously on most assignments and solutions.
  • Ensure compliance with government regulations, organization, industry and customer engineering standards.
  • Independently evaluate, select and apply a variety of technical techniques, procedures, and criteria using judgement in making more complex adaptations and modifications for tasks not previously performed.
  • Develop new or adapted products, methods, systems or models to provide added value solutions to customers.
  • Understand impact of work on other organizations internally and externally.
  • Work on special projects, as directed.
  • Provide suggestions for improving processes and implementing process improvements.
Preferred Skills
  • Familiarity with light water reactors and have performed multiple core designs in your career
  • Knowledge on how to control core physics parameters based on varying fuel assembly enrichment and poison
  • Display positive and effective team interaction skills and value positive peer relationships
  • Customer focus and demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with internal and external customers
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills with a passion for problem solving
What You'll Bring
  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering. Dependent on the position, degrees in Physics, Engineering Technology and Engineering Science may also be accepted.
  • Minimum of 7 years of related experience.
  • Advanced knowledge of related engineering standards, techniques and criteria.

Total Rewards Package
  • Salary: $115,000 - $156,000 and may also include annual incentives and performance bonuses. The base salary range is a guideline. Individual total compensation will vary based on factors such as qualifications, skill level, competencies and work location.
