Job summary

St. Michael’s Eye & Laser Institute in Largo, FL is seeking an Experienced Ophthalmic Technician for our fast-paced clinic. In-person, full-time or part-time roles with competitive pay and benefits are available.

You’ll perform patient testing, assist in minor procedures, and help manage flow using Nextech EMR. Ideal candidates have 3–5 years of Ophthalmic Technician experience and COA, COT, or COMT certifications.

Qualifications

  • 3–5 years of Ophthalmic Technician experience preferred.
  • COA, COT, or COMT certifications required.
  • Strong communication, organizational skills, and attention to detail.
  • Nextech EMR experience a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Provide patient care and testing, including acuity and diagnostic procedures.
  • Assist in minor surgical procedures and maintain sterile technique.
  • Manage patient flow, triage emergencies, and handle prescription refills.
  • Maintain instruments and stock exam rooms.

What You’ll Do
  • Patient Care & Testing – Perform accurate work‑ups (3.5 patients per hour) and key diagnostics:
    • Visual acuity, manual lensometry, visual fields
    • Applanation tonometry, motility evaluation, pupil testing
    • OCT, corneal topography, visual fields, A/B‑scan, fluorescein angiography
  • Surgical & Clinical Support – Assist in minor procedures while maintaining sterile technique
  • Patient Flow Management – Keep clinic running smoothly, triage emergencies, handle prescription refills
  • Equipment & Admin – Maintain instruments, stock exam rooms, support supply audits
What We’re Looking For
  • High school diploma required; college preferred
  • 3–5 years’ experience as an Ophthalmic Technician (preferred)Certification required: COA, COT, or COMTStrong communication, organizational skills, and detail orientationNextech EMR experience a plus
