Job summary

Transamerica Corporation in Cedar Rapids, IA is seeking an Expense Management Intern to support the department’s reporting, oversight, and forecasting activities within the Finance organization. You will work with large financial datasets, perform monthly expense reporting, assist with variance analysis, and help manage data for budgeting and forecasting processes using Excel, Tableau, and Alteryx.

  • To qualify for an internship, applicants must be currently enrolled at a college or university pursuing a business analytics, accounting, finance, or other analytical-type degree.
  • Internships are not available for students who have completed their college education or who will graduate prior to the conclusion of the internship.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft suite of products (Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, and Excel)
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Preferred knowledge of SQL, but not required.
  • Preferred knowledge of Alteryx & Tableau, but not required.

Responsibilities

  • Work with large data sets from various systems to analyze results and help team understand financial implications
  • Extract, transform, & load data using data management tools (may include Excel, Tableau, Alteryx)
  • Perform financial analysis and evaluate monthly forecast updates
  • Assist in monthly/quarterly expense reporting for management
  • Support monthly close process for amortization and capitalization entries
  • Engage across Expense Management team to learn of all roles and responsibilities within the organization
  • Attend intern events and other networking opportunities

Internships are short-term work experiences for a designated period of time that allow college students the opportunity to observe and participate in the professional work environment, to explore how his/her interests relate to possible careers, and to gain practical experience in an industry relating to their field of study.

Job Description

This role will support the Expense Management team’s reporting, oversight, and forecasting activities. The Expense Management team at Transamerica is responsible for helping the company determine funding and resource needs and priorities, identifying trade-offs, and providing financial analysis to ensure spend targets are met. Intern responsibilities will include assisting in monthly expense reporting, contributing to variance analysis for actual spend compared to budget, and helping to manage data for budgeting and forecasting processes. Intern will have the opportunity to work with large financial datasets and may apply Business Analytics knowledge (data management, data modeling, BI product maintenance and/or development) to support the team.
