Job description

POSITION SUMMARY

Coordinates activities involved with procuring goods and services such as raw materials, equipment, tools, parts, supplies, and advertising for the organization by performing the following duties.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES: (Other duties may be assigned)

  • Monitor shortages of parts needed for production
  • Run reports to help determine needs
  • Respond to information requests from the shop floor or other departments
  • Expedite vendors to ensure timely arrival of parts for production needs:
    • Report delivery problems to the responsible buyer
    • Expedite delivery of goods to users once received from the vendor
    • Consult with vendors to obtain product or service information such as price, availability, and delivery schedule
  • Create purchase orders:
    • Obtain price quotes from multiple suppliers under the supervision of the responsible buyer
    • Prepare purchase orders or bid requests
    • Create purchase orders from requisitions
    • Issue purchase orders to suppliers and confirm delivery date, quantity, and price accuracy
  • Data entry and paperwork filing:
    • Maintain procurement records such as items or services purchased, costs, delivery, product quality or performance, and inventories
  • Support follow-up of non-conforming goods:
    • Coordinate with QA to define the disposition of non-conforming goods based on need and feasibility
    • Organize logistics for returning parts to vendors
    • Discuss with vendors about improved packaging, JIT solutions, and kitting
    • Process receipts and invoices for payment, resolve receiving issues

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:

  • At least 2 years of related experience
  • Ability to read, interpret drawings, and measure using scales or tapes proficiently
  • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations with limited standardization
  • Ability to interpret instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form
