Job summary

STG Inc. is seeking a seasonal driver/yard assistant in Anchorage to transport materials, manage routes, and support procurement activities. The role involves loading and unloading, coordinating with vendors, and maintaining accurate freight records.

You will work within a fast-paced team supporting regional projects. Requirements include a High School Diploma or GED, 1 year of vendor experience, a valid Alaska driver’s license, and a DOT medical card.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • One year of experience with local construction or freight vendors is required.
  • DOT medical card required.
  • Valid Alaska driver’s license and must be qualified to operate a vehicle under the company Driving Policy.
  • Ability to pass a drug, driving record, and background screenings.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Excel, Word) preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Operate company vehicles to transport materials, tools, and supplies.
  • Follow daily route plans based on project schedules and priorities.
  • Pick up and deliver materials from vendors and project sites in the Anchorage area.
  • Assist with yard maintenance, loading/unloading, and inventory control.
  • Maintain accurate records of purchases, receipts, and freight tracking.
  • Provide general administrative support to Procurement & Logistics.

What can you expect?
  • Operate company vehicles (pickups, vans, or flatbed trucks up to 1.5 tons) to transport materials, tools, and supplies.
  • Follow daily route plans based on project schedules, freight timelines, and operational priorities.
  • Pick up and deliver materials from vendors, freight companies, and project sites throughout the Anchorage area.
  • Make supply and grocery runs, including purchasing, loading, packing, and delivering items for shipment.
  • Serve as courier for internal communications and document deliveries.
  • Plan efficient routes to optimize time, fuel, and delivery sequencing.
  • Comply with all traffic laws and company safety policies while driving and loading vehicles.
  • Verify materials received or delivered against vendor pick tickets and company purchase orders for accuracy.
  • Submit weekly expense reports and maintain accurate records of company credit card purchases.
  • Process receipts, pick tickets, and air bills daily with appropriate notes and filing.
  • Consolidate deliveries by project to streamline shipments to remote job sites.
  • Capture photo documentation of all outbound freight and deliveries.
  • Organize goods received by projects to consolidate delivery and shipments to field projects.
  • Package, label, and load goods for shipment according to company and freight handling standards.
  • Operate a loader with forks to load and offload materials, trucks, and trailers safely.
  • Assist with organizing, loading, and securing containers, flats, and other materials for transport.
  • Support yard maintenance, snow removal, and equipment organization tasks.
  • Help maintain yard inventory and storage organization.
  • Provide general administrative assistance to the Procurement & Logistics team.
  • Use office equipment (computer, copier, scanner) and maintain accurate electronic and paper files.
  • Assist with procurement tasks such as completing requisitions and purchase orders as needed.
  • Send daily freight updates via email to project teams, logistics staff including the foreman, project manager, and the P&L department.
  • Attend team meetings and contribute to departmental communication and coordination.
  • Build and maintain professional relationships with vendors and carriers.
  • Represent the company with integrity and professionalism when interacting with external partners.
  • Communicate effectively and courteously with internal teams and project staff.
  • Report any incidents or concerns impacting safety, ethics, or company operations to management promptly.
  • Actively participate in training and development opportunities to support continuous improvement.
  • Maintain constant awareness and focus while performing driving and manual tasks safely.
  • Perform manual labor and physical activities as required, including snow shoveling, yard maintenance, Connex/tents clean-up, and lifting up to 50 pounds.
  • Adapt to changing priorities and perform other duties as assigned.
Supervisory Functions

This position does not have supervisory responsibilities.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
  • Familiarity with Anchorage-area road systems and local traffic patterns. Adhere to all state and local driving laws and regulations.
  • Understanding of Alaska-based construction vendors, materials, and freight processes.
  • Working knowledge of hazardous material handling and transportation procedures.
  • Competence in operating company vehicles and loaders safely and efficiently.
  • Basic understanding of procurement workflows, order reconciliation, and shipping documentation.
  • Strong attention to detail in verifying shipments and completing documentation.
  • Solid organizational and time management skills to manage multiple pickups, deliveries, and tasks.
  • Accuracy in data comparison and recordkeeping for receipts, orders, and freight tracking.
  • Basic mathematical skills for reconciling quantities, measurements, and order totals.
  • Professional interpersonal skills with a customer-focused approach.
  • Clear written and verbal communication for coordinating deliveries and reporting updates.
  • Ability to maintain positive relationships with vendors, carriers, and coworkers.
  • Sound judgment and decision-making in route planning and problem resolution.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Outlook, Excel, and Word, with basic internet navigation skills.
  • Ability to research vendor locations and materials online to support planning and procurement.
  • Consistent documentation and filing practices, maintaining accurate digital and physical records.
  • Self-motivated with minimal supervision required to complete tasks efficiently.
  • Flexibility to adapt to changing priorities, environments, and weather conditions.

Minimum Qualifications
  • High School Diploma or GED equivalent required.
  • One (1) year of experience working with local construction or freight vendors is required.
  • One (1) year of experience professional driving in Anchorage area is required.
  • Department of Transportation (DOT) medical card required.
  • Basic computer skills and experience using Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook) required.
  • Valid Alaska driver’s license and must be qualified to operate a vehicle under the conditions of Company’s Driving Policy.
  • Ability to pass a drug, driving record, and background screenings.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Hazmat Transportation certification preferred.
  • Experience operating loaders or other light equipment preferred.
  • Prior experience in logistics, warehousing, or materials handling preferred.
Working Environment

The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. This position operates in both indoor and outdoor environments and requires frequent travel throughout the Anchorage area to vendors, freight carriers, company yards, warehouses, and project support locations. Work is performed in a fast-paced, multi-tasking environment requiring strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to effectively manage changing priorities and time-sensitive deliveries. The employee is regularly exposed to varying weather conditions while driving, loading and unloading materials, organizing freight, and supporting yard operations. The position may also involve exposure to moving equipment, vehicle traffic, noise, dust, and uneven terrain. The employee must exercise flexibility regarding last-minute delivery requests, project schedule changes, and fluctuating workloads. At times, there may be a need for occasional evening and/or weekend work to meet project schedules, freight deadlines, and operational needs.
