STG Inc. is seeking a Laborer to support construction projects across Alaska, starting on Prince of Wales Island, AK. You will perform general labor tasks, assist crews, and help with site preparation and material handling.
Expect physically demanding work in varying weather, adherence to safety policies, and a collaborative, team-based environment. This local-hire position does not include housing accommodations and may require long hours and some overtime.
STG Inc Temporary Pay Range: $35 - $45 per hour

As the Laborer, you will work onsite on Prince of Wales Island, AK and perform a variety of general construction and manual labor tasks to support the successful completion of construction projects throughout Alaska. You will work alongside skilled trades personnel and assist with site preparation, material handling, equipment support, grounding, weatherproofing, and other construction activities while maintaining a safe and productive work environment. You are expected to perform physically demanding work in varying weather conditions, follow all safety policies and procedures, and contribute as a reliable member of the construction crew to help meet project schedules and operational goals.
Please note that this position is reserved exclusively for local hires in Prince of Wales, AK, and housing accommodations will not be provided in this area.
Work closely and support a variety of skilled trades and construction activities. Follow directives from Project Foreman, and anyone senior, with the sense of duty to take initiative and remain productive at work. Perform physical labor that requires considerable use of one’s arms and legs and moving your whole body such as climbing, lifting, balancing, walking, stooping, and handling of materials at construction sites.
Load, offload, move and organize supplies, materials, tools and small equipment at barge landings, airstrips and on the job site. Prepare work sites, maintain safe work sites. Perform trade for long hours, day after day, often in adverse conditions, to complete the project at hand. Perform grounding, weatherproofing, and testing of various systems. Attend and participate in regular safety meetings. Adhere to and perform duties pursuant to the Company wide safety plan.
Responsibility to report any incident, situation or activity that may affect the Company’s ability to operate safely, ethically and profitably to supervisor and the Company Safety Manager. Duty to conduct oneself in the best interest of the company while on the job or representing STG. Act as a team member and mentor less experienced laborers. Cooking and cleaning as necessary in the shared living quarters. Maintain consistent and punctual attendance. Maintain any required certifications mandatory by law or company policy.
Work collaboratively with co-workers, supervisors, and other trades while maintaining a professional, respectful, and safety-focused work environment. Seek and participate in development and on-the-job training opportunities. Work in a constant state of alertness and in a safe manner. Perform other duties as assigned.
Supervisory Functions: This position does not have formal supervisory responsibilities but may provide guidance and on-the-job support to less experienced crew members as assigned.
Basic knowledge of construction materials, terminology, tools, and general construction practices. Ability to safely operate and maintain hand tools, power tools, and other equipment commonly used in general construction. Ability to learn and apply basic rigging practices, hand signals, and material handling procedures. Ability to safely utilize electronic test equipment and other specialized tools in performance of duties. Skill in organizing resources, establishing priorities, meeting deadlines and general time management.
Ability to work in a team environment, take directions from supervisor(s) and other crew members, high degree of attention to details, follow work rules, and adhere to project schedule. Ability to actively listen and follow instructions. Ability to work productively under pressure. Strong self-motivation and work ethic; ability to work with or without direct supervision. Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, regulations, instruction manuals, blueprints, and specifications.
Ability to participate in group meetings. Ability to live and work cooperatively with team members in shared remote field accommodations while maintaining a positive and professional attitude. Ability to travel to remote places for work related purposes (up to 100% of time). Ability to report to work consistently on time and work a flexible schedule, up to 12 hours per day, 7 days per week.
No formal education or degree required. First Aid/CPR training or ability to become certified. Ability to pass drug, driving (if applicable) and background screening.
One (1) experience in concrete work, carpentry, or general construction is preferred. Rigger/Signalperson certification preferred. Heavy equipment experience preferred. Prior experience in Alaska’s rural construction industry is preferred. Valid state driver’s license and qualified to operate a vehicle under the conditions of Company’s Driving Policy preferred.
The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. STG Inc. has a fast-paced, multi-tasking work environment requiring a high degree of efficient and effective performance. At times, work is performed outdoors at active construction sites, barge landings, airstrips, and other project locations throughout Prince of Wales Island and surrounding areas, where employees may be exposed to varying weather conditions, uneven terrain, heavy equipment, and other construction-related hazards.
The employee must exercise flexibility with regard to changing project schedules, varying workloads, and last-minute operational needs. Occasional overtime, extended workdays, weekend work, and travel between local job sites may be required to support project schedules and operational requirements.
