Job summary

Carolina Smiles Family Dentistry is hiring an Expanded Functions Dental Assistant to join our team in South Carolina. This role features a 4-day workweek (Mon–Fri, 8:00 AM–4:00 PM) with a pay range of $28–$32 per hour.

EFDA certification and N₂O certification are required, and 1+ year of dental assisting experience is preferred. The successful candidate will assist with four-handed dentistry, radiographs, infection control, and patient comfort.

Qualifications

• EFDA and N₂O certifications are required.
• 1+ year dental assisting experience preferred.
• Strong knowledge of dental procedures, sterilization and infection control.

Responsibilities

• Welcome, prepare, and care for patients during visits.
• Assist dentist with four-handed dentistry and expanded functions.
• Prepare treatment rooms, instruments, materials and equipment.
• Take and develop dental radiographs as certified.
• Perform expanded-function duties within scope of practice.
• Monitor and assist with N₂O sedation.
• Sterilize instruments and maintain infection-control standards.
• Provide post-op instructions and reassure patients.
• Keep operatories organized, stocked and ready to go.
• Maintain accurate patient records and treatment documentation.
• Support the team with lab work and other clinical tasks.

What You’ll Do

• Welcome, prepare, and care for patients throughout their visit
• Assist the dentist with 4-handed dentistry and expanded functions

• Take and develop dental radiographs as permitted by certification
• Perform expanded-function duties within your scope of practice
• Monitor and assist with N₂O sedation
• Sterilize instruments and maintain excellent infection-control standards
• Provide post-op instructions and help patients feel confident about their care
• Keep operatories clean, organized, stocked, and ready to go
• Maintain accurate patient records and treatment documentation
• Support the team with lab work and other clinical tasks as needed

What We’re Looking For

• N₂O certification — required
• Expanded Functions Dental Assistant (EFDA) certification — required
• 1+ year of dental assisting experience preferred, but all experience levels are welcome to apply
• Strong knowledge of dental procedures, instruments, sterilization, and infection control
• Excellent communication and patient-care skills
• Reliable, organized, and comfortable in a fast-paced environment
• A positive, team-first attitude
• Experience with Eaglesoft is a plus
• Bilingual skills are a plus, but not required
