Job summary

UM FDSP Associates is a dental support organization affiliated with the University of Maryland School of Dentistry, seeking a Dental Assistant, Radiology-Certified. The role requires a high school diploma or GED and at least two years of prior experience, CPR certification, and Maryland radiology licensing.

Responsibilities include assisting in four-handed dentistry, preparing study models and temporary crowns, and handling routine dental procedures.

Qualifications

  • Thorough knowledge of the principles of dental assisting theory, technique, and practice.
  • Skill in procedures using sit-down four-handed dentistry techniques.
  • Ability to wear and work in personal protective equipment.

Responsibilities

  • Places and removes rubber dams, matrix bands, and/or retraction cords.
  • Applies topical anesthesia, fluoride, and desensitizing agents as instructed by a dentist.
  • Removes excess cement.
  • Maintenance of implant kits.
  • Prepares impressions for study models.
  • Prepares, places, and removes temporary crowns.
  • Constructs athletic mouth guards and customized trays.
  • Performs vitality tests.
  • Prepares and fits stainless steel crowns.
  • Removes sutures.
  • Removes and places subsequent periodontal dressing.
  • Dries root canals.
  • Etches teeth.
  • Performs all the duties of a Dental Assistant, Radiology-Certified.

Under general supervision, performs accounting clerical orbookkeeping tasks to support accounts payable/receivable, and/or otheraccounting related functions. Postsjournal entries, processes payments or deposits, and verifies accuracy of data.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:

High school diploma or general education degree (GED); twoyears’ prior experience as a Dental Assistant.Related education may be substituted for experience on a year for yearbasis.

OTHER:

Employees in this job class must be CPR certified and are obligated to meet and maintain Maryland State Radiology License,National Certification, and Maryland State requirements for dental assistingand dental radiography. Dental Assistant will also be required to bemedically fit tested to wear N9 mask.

Required Knowledge / Skills / Abilities:

Thorough knowledge of the principles of dental assistingtheory, technique, and practice. Skill in procedures using sit-downfour-handed dentistry techniques. Skill in the use of dental instrumentsand equipment. Ability to wear and work in personal protective equipment.Ability to follow oral and written instructions. Ability to communicate effectively orally andin writing.

ADDITIONAL CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:

Employeesin this job class may be required to receive immunization shots to preventillness due to exposure to blood borne pathogens.

Overtime may be required.
