Job summary

Indian Health Service seeks an experienced Expanded Function Dental Assistant to support chairside assisting, restorative procedures, radiography, and infection control. This role emphasizes culturally respectful care for American Indian and Alaska Native communities.

The successful candidate will educate patients, prepare materials and equipment, maintain records, and assist with intra-oral procedures under dentist supervision in a federally operated healthcare setting.

Qualifications

• One year of specialized experience equivalent to GS-04 in chairside assistance, restorations, radiographs, and infection control.
• A full 4-year dental assistant or dental hygiene program including at least 24 semester hours in radiation physics and related courses.
• Combination of Education and Experience may meet 100% of the requirements.

Responsibilities

• Restores teeth after preparation.
• Provides chairside assisting and anticipates dentist needs for instruments and materials.
• Performs intra-oral procedures such as prophylaxis, sealants, and temporary restorations.
• Performs radiological procedures and basic dental lab tasks; prepares models and impressions.
• Maintains patient records and prepares patients for treatments.
