Job summary

Davis-Dental-Center in Louisville, KY is seeking a Lead Managing Dental Assistant to support the Dentist and Operations Leader, performing Expanded Functions Dental Assistant duties and managing patient care.

You will set up rooms, take radiographs, fabricate orthodontic appliances, maintain records, and mentor staff to ensure HIPAA/OSHA compliance and an extraordinary patient experience. You will enter data into the practice management system and monitor supplies to support smooth operations.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or equivalent required.
• X-ray certification as defined by state/county licensing.
• Expanded Functions Dental Assisting License valid in state.

Responsibilities

• Sets up/breaks down rooms and operatories for safety and efficiency.
• Prepares patient, sterilizes instruments and furniture, sets up materials.
• Takes radiographs (x-rays, panoramic, digital scans, 3D images) as prescribed.
• Takes and records medical/dental histories and vital signs.
• Fabricates and fits orthodontic appliances (retainers, wires, bands).
• Provides post-operative instructions and oral hygiene guidance.
• Manages lab cases, maintains equipment logs, and prepares charts.
• Enters information into the practice management system under the dentist.
• Orders and monitors dental supplies and inventory.
• Upholds HIPAA and OSHA safety procedures; ensures patient privacy.

Job description

The Expanded Functions Dental Assistant (EFDA) assists the Dentist, sets up equipment, prepares the patient for treatment, and keeps records. May perform some dental hygiene procedures. May complete certain restorative procedures within the scope and limitations set by the state within which the EFDA is licensed.

Working under the Direction of the Dentist and Operations Leader, the tasks and responsibilities of a Lead Managing Dental Assistant include but are but not limited to:

• Sets up/breaks down rooms and operatories to ensure a safe environment for the patients and doctors.
• Prepares patient for treatment, sterilizes instruments and dental furniture, sets up trays and prepares materials
• Takes quality / acceptable radiographs, x-rays, panoramic x-rays, digital scans and 3D images as prescribed by the Dentist
• Takes and records medical and dental histories and vital signs of patients
• Fabricates and fits orthodontic appliances and materials for patients such as retainers, wires, or bands
• Provides post-operative instructions to patients as needed
• Instructs patient in oral hygiene and plaque control programs when appropriate
• Manages lab cases, keeps equipment maintenance logs up to date and prepares charts in advance for patient safety, office efficiency and the patient experience.
• Enters relevant / important information and keeps records into the practice management in support of / under the direction of the dentist
• Orders and monitors dental supplies and equipment inventory
• Utilizes tools skills and talents to assist patients in making the best possible decision for their needs and helping them get healthier and happier.

• Continually build and nurture a positive working relationship with the Operations Leader, Dentist(s), Hygienists and other staff
• Strictly follow HIPAA and company standards to protect Protected Health Information (PHI) and patient personal and financial information including credit card, social security numbers etc.
