Job summary

Six Flags Great Adventure seeks an Animal Educator 1 to care for parrots, small mammals, reptiles, and birds of prey while educating guests on conservation. You will develop animal relationships, train for enrichment, and deliver memorable experiences in a dynamic team environment.

The role emphasizes operating under Six Flags policies, strong guest interaction, and ongoing husbandry duties; candidates should be able to work summers, weekends, and various weather conditions.

Qualifications

• Must be 18 years of age or older.
• Outgoing, approachable and positive attitude.
• Public speaking experience preferred.
• Must have a valid driver’s license.
• Ability to lift and move 50 pounds or more.
• Ability to stand or sit for long periods; bend, crouch, or climb.
• Must work holidays and weekends; no more than 1 weekend off per month.
• Be able to work 40 hours a week during the summer.
• Ability to work in all weather conditions.
• Animal Educator 1 qualifications include 1 year with exotic animals or 2 years with domestics or completion of 1–2 Education Internship.
• Understand the basics of operant conditioning and apply concepts in training.
• Able to handle frozen animals for defrosting and feeding, complete small animal dissection, and feed, clean and handle insects.

Responsibilities

• Guide Safari Off Road Adventure tours and know animal facts.
• Be approachable, proactive and engaging with guests.
• Communicate effectively with guests and team members.
• Own progression in the position and take initiative.
• Follow Six Flags and Safari Department policies and protocols.
• Educate guests about conservation and the Save an Icon program.
• Maintain a clean and safe work environment with daily/weekly tasks.
• Educate guests about animals in your zone and maintain husbandry records.
• Know speaking roles for outreach programs and perform readings/quizzes on animal husbandry.
