Job summary

Six Flags Entertainment Corporation in New Jersey is seeking an Animal Educator 1 to care for parrots, small mammals, reptiles and birds of prey while delivering memorable guest experiences and educating them about conservation.

You will train animals for husbandry and enrichment, support guest programs, and maintain animal records in ZIMS, collaborating with the Safari Department to uphold safety and welfare standards.

Qualifications

  • 18 years of age or older.
  • Must have a valid driver’s license.
  • Be able to lift and move 50 pounds or more.
  • Be able to stand or sit for long periods of time, bend, crouch, or climb.
  • Must work holidays and weekends and no more than 1 weekend request off a month.
  • Be able to work 40 hours a week during the summer.
  • Be able to work in all weather conditions.
  • Must have at least 1 year working with exotic animals or 2 years working with domestics, or have completed 1 or 2 seasons/years of the Education Internship.

  • Be a Safari Off Road Adventure tour guide, knowing all the animal facts of the safari.
  • Be approachable, proactive and outgoing towards guests.
  • Have excellent communication skills.
  • Be a self-starter and in charge of own progression in position.
  • Adhere to all Six Flags and Safari Department policies and protocols.
  • Support our Save an Icon program by educating guests about conservation initiatives.
  • Maintain a clean and safe work environment by completing daily and weekly tasks.
  • Educate guests about the animals in your assigned zone.
  • Maintain excellent husbandry practices including cleaning, prepping and feeding diets.
  • Know all speaking roles for our outreach program.
  • Complete readings and quizzes on animal husbandry and operant conditioning.
  • Handle small mammals and reptiles according to position level.
  • Care for domestic hoof stock species.
  • Keep records in ZIMS software for animal care.
  • Complete opening and closing tasks including feeding and cleaning.
  • Participate in behavior training sessions and write behavior plans.

  • Complete opening and closing tasks including cleaning and feeding birds, reptiles, hoof stock, and mammals.
  • Participate in supervised animal educator 1 behavior training sessions with parrots, birds of prey and mammalsbased on your understanding of operant conditioning principles.
  • Write a behavior approximation plan for an assigned animal and behavior and train said behavior.
Qualifications
  • 18 years of age or older.
  • Outgoing, approachable, and positive attitude.
  • Public speaking experience preferred.
  • Must have a valid driver’s license.
  • Be able to lift and move 50 pounds or more.
  • Be able to stand or sit for long periods of time, bend, crouch, or climb.
  • Must work holidays and weekends and no more than 1 weekend request off a month.
  • Be able to work 40 hours a week during the summer.
  • Be able to work in all weather conditions.

ANIMAL EDUCATOR 1 QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Must have at least 1 year working with exotic animals or 2 years working with domestics. OR have completed 1or 2 seasons/years of the Education Internship.
  • Understand the basic principles of operant condition and be able to apply the concepts within animal training.
  • Able to handle frozen animals for defrosting and feeding, complete small animal dissection, and feed, clean andhandle insects
