Job summary

Six Flags Great Adventure seeks an Animal Educator 1 to care for parrots, small mammals, reptiles, and birds of prey while educating guests on conservation. You will develop animal relationships, train for enrichment, and deliver memorable experiences in a dynamic team environment.

Qualifications

• Must be 18 years of age or older.
• Outgoing, approachable and positive attitude.
• Public speaking experience preferred.
• Must have a valid driver’s license.
• Ability to lift and move 50 pounds or more.
• Ability to stand or sit for long periods; bend, crouch, or climb.
• Must work holidays and weekends; no more than 1 weekend off per month.
• Be able to work 40 hours a week during the summer.
• Ability to work in all weather conditions.
• Animal Educator 1 qualifications include 1 year with exotic animals or 2 years with domestics or completion of 1–2 Education Internship.
• Understand the basics of operant conditioning and apply concepts in training.
• Able to handle frozen animals for defrosting and feeding, complete small animal dissection, and feed, clean and handle insects.

• Know speaking roles for outreach programs and perform readings/quizzes on animal husbandry.

Have animal experience and strong public speaking skills?. Join our team as an Animal Educator 1. Use your animal care knowledge to help us care for animals like parrots, small mammals, reptiles birds of prey and more. Deliver memorable animal experiences to guests while educating them about the importance of conservation.

Responsibilities

• Be a Safari Off Road Adventure tour guide, knowing all the animal facts of the safari.
• Be approachable, proactive and outgoing towards guests.
• Have excellent communication skills.
• Be a self-starter and in charge of own progression in position.
• Adhere to all Six Flags and Safari Department policies and protocols.
• Support our Save an Icon program by educating guests about the dire need for conservation initiatives.
• Maintain a clean and safe work environment by completing daily and weekly tasks.
• Educate guests about the animals that are in your assigned zone.
• Maintain excellent husbandry practices including cleaning, prepping and feeding diets, and animal behavior observations.
• Know all speaking roles for our outreach program.
• Complete readings and quizzes based on animal husbandry of the area, and operant conditioning practices.
• Handle small mammals, and reptiles based on your position level and understanding of facts and protocols.
• Care for domestic hoof stock species.
• Keep excellent records using ZIMS software for animal care.

• Able to handle frozen animals for defrosting and feeding, complete small animal dissection, and feed, clean and handle insects
