Job summary

Philadelphia Museum of Art is seeking a Registrar to organize and manage large exhibitions, including in-house and traveling shows. You will negotiate loans, arrange domestic and international shipments, and coordinate installation schedules with multiple departments.

The role requires 4–7 years of registrar experience, strong organization, and knowledge of government indemnity procedures. Travel as courier will be needed, with a focus on timely, accurate installations.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s or Master’s in museum studies or equivalent.
• Well-organized, detail-oriented with best practices in museum registration.
• Experience organizing complex domestic and international shipments.
• Knowledge of US Government Indemnity procedures.
• Ability to travel nationally and internationally as needed.
• Experience with TMS preferred.
• Background check after conditional offer.

Responsibilities

• Manage and coordinate exhibition logistics including packing, shipping, installation, and courier arrangements.
• Review and negotiate loan agreements with lenders.
• Organize complex domestic and international shipments with couriers and installation scheduling.
• Oversee and document unpacking, condition checks and installation of loans.
• Negotiate and arrange fine arts insurance for exhibitions.
• Prepare indemnity applications and oversee indemnified exhibitions.
• Collaborate with conservation, installations, packing, exhibition design, curatorial, protection services and facilities.
• Travel as courier for exhibitions and loan shipments as assigned.
• Complete condition reports as needed; release/receive shipments to meet schedules.
• Archive closed exhibitions; assist Registration Department goals.
