Job summary

The Senator John Heinz History Center in Pittsburgh, PA is seeking an Entry Exhibit Technician to support the development, installation and maintenance of exhibits. The role involves painting, carpentry, mounting objects, and collaborating with a team to keep spaces safe and engaging.

Responsibilities include fabrication, A/V support, drywall finishing, and hands-on work across a dynamic museum environment with varied hours, including evenings and weekends as needed.

Qualifications

  • Minimum high school diploma or equivalent.
  • Experience in exhibit or theater production or construction is a plus.
  • Proficient with electrical and manual equipment and measurement tools.
  • Ability to read technical documents, drawings and blueprints.
  • Understanding of advanced construction and structural techniques.
  • Must be a team player and able to work independently.
  • Physically demanding: lifting, bending, walking, climbing, standing.

Responsibilities

  • Fabricate exhibits including painting, construction, mounts and installing objects/graphics, hands-on interactives.
  • Drywall spackling and finishing, painting, sanding, cleaning and maintenance of galleries.

  • Work hours based on exhibit schedule; evenings and weekends possible.

About the Postion

The Heinz History Center is seeking several Exhibit Technicians to join our Exhibit team. The Exhibit Technician’s primary responsibility is to assist with the development, production, installation maintenance and de-installation of exhibits. The successful candidate will assist with the fabrication of exhibits including painting, construction, making mounts, installing objects and graphics, and creating hands‑on interactives. Other responsibilities include drywall spakling and finishing, painting, sanding, cleaning and maintenance of exhibit galleries, assistance with A/V equipment and maintaining a clean / safe wood shop and fabrication area.

This is a Casual position with hours based on the Exhibit Schedule. There is no guarantee of the number of hours per week, but Exhibit Techs are generally scheduled 8 to 29 hours per week, you may be asked to work some evening and weekends.

Self‑motivation is important. This position is physically demanding requiring extensive lifting, bending, walkings, climbing and standing. A strong attention to detail and the ability to follow precise instructions is imperative.
