Job summary

Liberty Science Center in Jersey City, NJ is seeking a creative Exhibit Technician to care for and maintain all exhibitions. The role includes fabrication, installation, and on-site/off-site exhibit work, diagnosing electrical, mechanical, and computer issues, and supporting in-house and external fabrication projects.

We expect a technical degree and at least two years of hands-on experience with carpentry, electrical work, and AV systems.

Qualifications

• Requires a college degree or equivalent education (technical or trade school).
• Strong understanding of electrical, mechanical, and computer hardware/software systems.
• Experience with carpentry, metal work, lighting, and AV systems preferred.

Responsibilities

• Responsible for daily operations of all Liberty Science Center exhibits, including start-up/shut-down and ensuring exhibits are functional during operating hours.
• Responds to front-line staff and volunteers for exhibit operation and maintenance issues.
• Troubleshoots electrical and mechanical problems to identify root cause and corrective action.
• Operates test equipment and tools and supports fabrication and installation work.
• Maintains records of exhibit files, histories, and inventory; develops preventive maintenance schedules.
• Ensures a clean, safe, and organized work environment and observes safety procedures.
