Job summary

WellSpan Health is seeking a Part-Time Cardiac Rehab Specialist to provide assessment, treatment, testing, and education for cardiac patients and families. You will develop and coordinate clinical exercise programs and support rehab in cardiac, pulmonary, and metabolic patients.

Responsibilities include evaluating functional abilities, creating individualized exercise plans, educating patients, ensuring safety, and maintaining equipment.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Exercise Science, Clinical Exercise Physiology, or Kinesiology. Required
  • Master’s degree in Exercise Science, Clinical Exercise Physiology, or Kinesiology. Preferred
  • Less than 1 year direct patient care experience in a clinical setting. Required
  • 1 year direct patient care experience in a clinical setting. Preferred
  • BLS within 30 days Required
  • ACLS within 120 days Required
  • Registered Clinical Exercise Physiologist within 1 year Preferred
  • Certified Cardiac Rehab Professional within 1 year Preferred

Responsibilities

  • Implements individualized exercise plans ensuring safety and evidence-based practice.
  • Re-evaluates treatment plans to maximize patient benefit.
  • Educates patients and families to promote participation and goals.
  • Ensure patient safety and respond to cardiac events per protocols.
  • Troubleshoot and maintain exercise equipment.
  • Demonstrates competency in exercise protocol selection and risk stratification.

Schedule

Part-Time: 16 Hours/Weekly, Dayshift with rotating weekends and holidays.

General Summary

Provides assessment, treatment, testing, and education to cardiac patients and their families. Develops, implements and coordinates clinical exercise programs. Assists in the development and oversight of exercise programs in cardiac, pulmonary and metabolic patients.

Essential Functions:
  • Evaluates patients’ functional abilities and limitations to determine appropriate intervention.
  • Implements individualized exercise plans that consider patient’s physical and age-specific needs and abilities. Ensures that treatment plans are supported by standard practices and/or current literature.
  • Re-evaluates treatment plan, as needed, to ensure patient safety and maximal patient benefit.
  • Educates patients, family members, and other care providers to promote patient participation and attainment of exercise program goals.
  • Responsible for patient safety including recognizing cardiac arrhythmias and responding according to emergency protocols utilizing life saving skills and obtaining medical equipment.
  • Maintains operational knowledge of exercise equipment with ability to troubleshoot this equipment.
  • Possesses competency in the use of equipment for treatment and deriving exercise and lifestyle improvement strategies
  • Demonstrates competency in exercise protocol selection and risk stratification classification in patient assessment and rehabilitation.
  • Possesses the ability to perform technical skills, which may include any of the following: venipuncture, blood pressure monitoring at rest and exercise, skinfold assessments, circumference measures, advanced EKG interpretation and monitoring, pulse oximetry and metabolic measures.
  • Demonstrates advanced knowledge of exercise prescription, exercise counseling and exercise education and setting of exercise goals that will best serve the needs of the patient.
  • Ensures an adequate stock of supplies and proper functioning of equipment.
  • Creates and/or modifies policies regarding the delivery of patient care and services related to exercise testing, prescription and supervision.

  • Demonstrates a commitment to patient, visitor and staff by: complying with all applicable safety regulations; learning the impact of medical errors and methodology that will lead to reduction of errors; reporting actual and potential errors, as well as hazardous conditions; identifying opportunities to standardize processes and "error proof" systems that will lead to increased safety; and participating in safety education programs and root cause analyses as required.
  • Maintains established policies and procedures, objectives, quality assessment, safety, environmental and infection control standards, cleans equipment.
  • Provides outstanding service to all customers; fosters teamwork; and practices fiscal responsibility through improvement and innovation.
Qualifications
Minimum Education:
  • Bachelors Degree In Exercise Science, Clinical Exercise Physiology, or Kinesiology. Required
  • Masters Degree In Exercise Science, Clinical Exercise Physiology, or Kinesiology. Preferred
Work Experience:
  • Less than 1 year Direct patient care experience in a clinical setting. Required
  • 1 year Direct patient care experience in a clinical setting. Preferred
Licenses:
  • Basic Life Support within 30 days Required and
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support within 120 days Required
  • Registered Clinical Exercise Physiologist within 1 year Preferred
Courses and Training:
  • Certified Cardiac Rehab Professional within 1 year Preferred
