Job summary

OSF HealthCare is seeking a dedicated Exercise Physiologist to deliver medically prescribed exercise therapy to patients with complex cardiac and pulmonary conditions, guided by ACSM and AACVPR guidelines. The role assesses patient status, monitors vital signs, and coordinates with the cardiac rehab team to progress activity, while maintaining documentation and patient communication.

A BS in Exercise Physiology or related field is required, with BLS; ACLS within 6 months; strong interpersonal

• Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field (e.g., Exercise Physiology, Health Science, Kinesiology, Sports Medicine).
• BLS certification; ACLS certification within 6 months.
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills; solid computer skills.
• EKG interpretation training completion within 6 months (OSF required).

Responsibilities

• Provide medically prescribed exercise therapy for patients with multiple system disease states.
• Interpret exercise program data and direct patient activity with ongoing monitoring.
• Assess heart rate, blood pressure, blood glucose, SpO2, and perceived exertion.
• Collaborate with the cardiac rehab team to progression and communicate with staff.

Expected pay for this position is $23.58 - $27.75/hour. Actual pay will be determined by experience, skills and internal equity. This is an Hourly position.

Overview

POSITION SUMMARY: Provides medically prescribed exercise therapy for patients demonstrating multiple system disease states determined through assessment of patient's clinical status and based on guidelines provided by ACSM and AACVPR. Interprets the patient's exercise program data and directs patient's activity/exercise by ongoing monitoring and evaluation of the patient's clinical status through assessment of heart rate and rhythm, blood pressure, blood sugar, peripheral capillary oxygen saturation, and/or rated perceived exertion. Recommends exercise/activity progression and maintains on-going communication with the cardiac rehab team members.

Qualifications

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

Education:

• Bachelor’s degree, B.S. Exercise Physiology, Health Science, Kinesiology or Sports Medicine

Licensure/ Certification:

• BLS Certified
• ACLS Certification (Completion required within the first 6 months)

Other Skills/ Knowledge:

• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
• Solid computer skills, including proficiency with Microsoft software.
• Strong analytical and problem solving skills, with the ability to be detail oriented.
• EKG Interpretation Skills (Completion of EKG Interpretation training through OSF required withing 1st 6 months)

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Education:

• M.S. Exercise Physiology or Health Science

Experience:

• 1 year experience as an Exercise Physiologist in a Cardiac or Pulmonary Rehab setting.
• Experience with cardiac and pulmonary patient management
