Job summary

Corewell Health's Royal Oak Hospital Noninvasive Lab is seeking a part-time Cardiac Rehabilitation Specialist to develop and oversee exercise prescriptions for phase I-III rehab and related programs.

Responsibilities include education, program development, supervising stress tests, and participating in events and research; requires Bachelor's, BLS, and 2 years of experience in cardiac rehab.

Qualifications

• BLS certification required.
• 2 years of relevant experience in cardiac rehab.
• 600-hour internship in cardiac rehab may be required at some sites.
• ACSM or AACVPR certification within 1 year of employment.

Responsibilities

• Develop and implement exercise prescriptions for all phases of cardiac/pulmonary rehab.
• Create educational materials and educate patients referred to the program.
• Plan and participate in events, research, and programmatic initiatives.
• Supervise cardiovascular stress tests (GXTs, stress echo, nuclear MPI).
• Provide care management to Phase II patients in a timely, inspirational manner.

Job description

Scope of Work

Job duties may include any of the following and vary by site. See site specific addendums (if available) for details.

Provides all aspects of phases I - III cardiac rehabilitation. Under general direction, develops, implements and evaluates exercise prescriptions and exercise sessions for all phases of cardio/pulmonary rehab as well as other chronic illnesses. Creates educational materials and provides education both cardio/pulmonary patients and other patients referred to the cardiac rehab program. Plans and participates in special patient events, writing/research endeavors, professional conferences, the student internship program, specialized programmatic service lines (ie, Cardiovascular Performance Clinic, cardiac rehab referral intake, cardiac rehabilitation marketing, etc.), and/or departmental improvement initiatives related to the department. Extremely knowledgeable of cardiac risk factors. Provides all aspects of care management to the Phase II patients in an effective, timely, inspirational manner.

Supervises cardiovascular stress tests for individuals with and without chronic disease in order to obtain reliable and valid data.

Testing includes GXTs, Stress Echocardiograms, and Nuclear MPIs both exercise and pharmacological. Provides the placement/service of Holter Monitors, Event Monitors, and 12 lead EKGs for outpatients. Responsible for uploading monitor reports in Epic.

Provides other services such as Enhanced External Counterpulsation (EECP) and holter and event monitor placement.

STANDARD QUALIFICATIONS

• Required Bachelor’s Degree Exercise Science, Exercise Physiology or related field.
• Preferred Master’s Degree
• 2 years of relevant experience
• A minimum 2 years’ experience or successful completion of a 600-hour clinical internship in the cardiac rehab setting may be required dependent on job location within the system.
• Current BLS Certification- required upon hire
• Current Advanced Cardiac Life Support- preferred (may be required at specific sites)
• ACSM Certified Clinical Exercise Physiologist or AACVPR Certified Cardiac Rehabilitation Professional within 1 year of employment.
