Job summary

Corewell Health in Royal Oak is seeking a part-time Exercise Physiologist to provide comprehensive cardiac rehabilitation across all phases and to educate patients in a high-quality program.

Responsibilities include developing exercise prescriptions, supervising cardiac stress testing, and contributing to program development and education efforts.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Exercise Science, Exercise Physiology or related field.
  • Master's degree preferred.
  • 2 years of relevant experience.
  • 600-hour clinical internship in cardiac rehab may be required at some sites.
  • Current BLS certification required on hire.
  • ACLS preferred or site-specific requirement.
  • ACSM Certified Clinical Exercise Physiologist or AACVPR Certified Cardiac Rehabilitation Professional within 1 year.

Responsibilities

  • Provides all aspects of phases I–III cardiac rehabilitation and develops exercise prescriptions.
  • Creates educational materials and educates cardiac/pulmonary patients and others referred to the program.
  • Plans and participates in events, student internships, and programmatic initiatives.
  • Supervises cardiovascular stress tests (GXTs, stress echocardiograms, Nuclear MPIs).
  • Uploads monitor reports in Epic and provides EECP and monitor placement services.

Education

Bachelor's Degree in Exercise Science/Exercise Physiology or related field
Master’s Degree
BLS Certification
ACLS Certification (preferred/site may require)
CCEP or CCRP certification within 1 year

Job description

Scope of Work

Job duties may include any of the following and vary by site. See site specific addendums (if available) for details.

Provides all aspects of phases I – III cardiac rehabilitation. Under general direction, develops, implements and evaluates exercise prescriptions and exercise sessions for all phases of cardio/pulmonary rehab as well as other chronic illnesses. Creates educational materials and provides education both cardio/pulmonary patients and other patients referred to the cardiac rehab program. Plans and participates in special patient events, writing/research endeavors, professional conferences, the student internship program, specialized programmatic service lines (ie, Cardiovascular Performance Clinic, cardiac rehab referral intake, cardiac rehabilitation marketing, etc.), and/or departmental improvement initiatives related to the department. Extremely knowledgeable of cardiac risk factors. Provides all aspects of care management to the Phase II patients in an effective, timely, inspirational manner.

Supervises cardiovascular stress tests for individuals with and without chronic disease in order to obtain reliable and valid data.

Testing includes GXTs, Stress Echocardiograms, and Nuclear MPIs both exercise and pharmacological. Provides the placement/service of Holter Monitors, Event Monitors, and 12 lead EKGs for outpatients. Responsible for uploading monitor reports in Epic.

Provides other services such as Enhanced External Counterpulsation (EECP) and holter and event monitor placement.

Standard Qualifications
  • Required Bachelor's Degree Exercise Science, Exercise Physiology or related field.
  • Preferred Master's Degree
  • 2 years of relevant experience
  • A minimum 2 years’ experience or successful completion of a 600-hour clinical internship in the cardiac rehab setting may be required dependent on job location within the system.
  • Current BLS Certification- required upon hire
  • Current Advanced Cardiac Life Support- preferred (may be required at specific sites)
  • ACSM Certified Clinical Exercise Physiologist or AACVPR Certified Cardiac Rehabilitation Professional within 1 year of employment.
