Cardiovascular/Pulmonary Rehabilitation (C/PR) Clinical Exercise Physiologist Position Summary

The Cardiovascular/Pulmonary Rehabilitation (C/PR) Clinical Exercise Physiologist is responsible for exercise, education, and lifestyle modifications for patients recovering from myocardial infarction, open heart surgery, PTCI, stent, other interventional strategies for CAD, and those diagnosed with coronary artery disease. These applications extend to other patient populations (e.g., COPD, CHF, diabetes) and asymptomatic adults. Responsibilities also include involvement in the Pulmonary Rehabilitation Program, administering patient education, and exercise therapy for outpatient services. Inventory management, medication distribution/delivery may be required.

Position Requirements
  • MS in Cardiac Rehabilitation/Adult Fitness/Exercise Physiology - Exercise Science
  • AHA, BLS certification required
  • American College of Sports Medicine Exercise Specialist certification required or willing to complete within two years of employment
  • ACLS certification required or willing to complete within one year of employment
Experience
  • Minimum two to five years experience in Cardiac/Pulmonary Rehabilitation - inpatient and outpatient settings
  • Three to six years graduate experience in a Cardiac/Pulmonary Rehabilitation Adult Fitness setting
  • Experience in formulating exercise prescriptions from exercise tolerance tests, knowledge of cardiac medications and effects on exercise performance
  • Knowledge of Pulmonary Rehabilitation, assessment of Phase I patients, exercise appropriateness, EKG interpretation
  • Practical skills in modifying exercise programs for individual needs and presenting information to patients and families
  • Experience conducting submaximal and maximal exercise tolerance testing
  • Leading group warm-up sessions
  • Strong knowledge in cardiovascular physiology, exercise physiology, ACSM guidelines, and EKG interpretation
  • Metabolic testing experience is a plus
  • Confidence working with adults and good personnel interaction skills required
Work Schedule
  • Monday-Friday, rotating Saturday; rotating day shift
  • Occasional work for special events
  • Hours based on work demand, minimum 40 hours/week, salary position
