Overview
JOB SUMMARY: Assess, plan, and direct patient mobilization and exercise programs in an inpatient setting. Collaborates with multidisciplinary teams, patients, and families to ensure cohesive patient care.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in a Health/Fitness field required; Exercise Physiology degree preferred. Master’s degree preferred.
- Exercise Specialist certification by the American College of Sports Medicine or eligible to test for it. ACSM-CEP or ACSM EP-C preferred.
- Basic Life Support for Healthcare Provider (BLS HCP) from AHA required.
Essential Functions
- Develop and implement patient mobilization and exercise programs.
- Assess patient readiness for mobilization and exercise by reviewing medical records.
- Coordinate care with nursing and therapy services.
- Explain mobilization roles to patients/families, verify orders, and confirm identity.
- Perform mobilization and adaptive positioning to ensure safety and performance.
- Monitor patient performance and adjust plans as needed.
- Assess and measure for appropriate durable medical equipment.
- Document treatment notes and patient education.
- Notify staff of changes in patient condition.
- Communicate patient status to relevant staff and coordinate care schedules.
- Respond promptly to emergency situations.
- Cross-train with related staff as appropriate.
Skills and Qualifications
- Experience in exercise assessment and programming for various populations.
- Knowledge of medical terminology preferred.
- Minimum 2 years of relevant experience preferred.
- Good communication skills, physical ability to push and transfer patients, and demonstrate exercises.
- Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) may be required due to exposure risks.
Work Environment
- Subject to stress, moderate noise, and occasional high moisture conditions.
- Potential exposure to bloodborne and airborne pathogens.
- May involve home visits and exposure to bodily fluids and chemicals.
- Subject to emergency or crisis situations.
Physical Requirements
Activities include standing, walking, sitting, bending, reaching, dexterity, talking, hearing, seeing, and lifting up to 100 lbs.
