Confidential is seeking an Executive Underwriting Director, Brokerage Excess, to lead underwriting strategy for a brokerage excess portfolio in a remote, US-based role. Qualifications

  • 8+ years of underwriting experience, including large or complex programs.
  • CPCU designation preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of Excess & Surplus lines underwriting policies and practices.
  • Excellent negotiation and communication skills.

Responsibilities

  • Identify new market opportunities and support product development.
  • Analyze loss exposure and set premiums and endorsements accordingly.
  • Build broker relationships and resolve conflicts independently.
  • Conduct marketing visits and report outcomes to the team.
  • Analyze premiums and losses to maintain portfolio quality.

Job description

For our client, we are seeking a Executive Underwriting Director, Brokerage Excess to join the team of a leader in the Finance & Insurance space.

In this remote leadership role, you will guide underwriting strategy for a brokerage excess portfolio, balancing growth with disciplined risk selection and pricing. You will partner closely with brokers and internal stakeholders to identify market opportunities, evaluate complex exposures, and help maintain strong portfolio performance. This position also supports team development, market engagement, and consistent execution against premium and loss ratio objectives.

Location: Remote - US based candidates only, no visa sponsorship available

Compensation: $152,000 – $269,000 annually

Responsibilities
  • Proactively identify new market opportunities and support product development processes.
  • Analyze exposure to loss and develop appropriate premium and endorsements.
  • Build positive relationships with brokers and resolve conflicts independently.
  • Conduct marketing visits and communicate outcomes to the team.
  • Analyze premium and losses for assigned brokers to maintain business quality.
  • Develop team capabilities and demonstrate leadership.
  • Handle submissions efficiently to meet premium and loss ratio goals.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in a related discipline preferred.
  • 8+ years of underwriting experience, particularly with large or complex programs.
  • Chartered Property Casualty Underwriter (CPCU) designation preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of Excess & Surplus lines underwriting policies and practices.
  • Exceptional negotiation and communication skills.
