The Impact You Will Have
The Executive Underwriter Natural Resources & Construction - LatAm will have deep expertise in Natural Resources and Construction (NR&C) risks, strong relationships with key brokers and clients in Miami and throughout the regional market, and the ability to leverage emerging technologies, including Artificial Intelligence solutions and underwriting agents, to enhance decision-making, efficiency, and operational excellence. You will act as a mentor, referral underwriter, and champion of underwriting governance through 4-eyes reviews and self-audit processes.
Some of your specific responsibilities could include:
- Participating in the development and execution of the regional Underwriting strategy for NR&C, including working closely with Distribution, Claims and other product lines to achieve key marketing strategies, including cross-selling.
- Navigating evolving regulatory, geopolitical, environmental, and climate-related exposures in Latam.
- Monitoring Natural Catastrophe Accumulation, ensuring an understanding of catastrophe modeling and interpretation of scenarios.
- Serving as a senior technical referral point for complex underwriting decisions.
- Underwriting new and renewal accounts within delegated authority to meet top and bottom line targets.
- Applying advanced underwriting judgment to pricing, coverage structure, contract analysis, and capacity deployment.
- Driving portfolio profitability through disciplined risk selection, accumulation management, and proactive portfolio steering.
- Developing and maintaining strategic relationships with key brokers, clients, and risk managers across Miami and the broader Latin American market.
- Positioning Allianz Commercial as a preferred market for NR&C risks.
- Conducting regular broker visits, client meetings, stewardship reviews, and market-facing activities.
- Collaborating closely with Distribution to support business development, retention, and cross-selling opportunities.
- Representing Allianz Commercial at industry conferences, broker events, and technical forums.
- Promoting underwriting excellence through consistent application of underwriting guidelines, authority levels, and risk appetite frameworks.
- Leading and participating in structured peer reviews of complex accounts and large exposures.
- Implement and maintain self-audit disciplines to ensure underwriting quality, documentation standards, and regulatory compliance.
- Identify underwriting trends, lessons learned, and opportunities for continuous improvement.
- Champion the responsible adoption of Artificial Intelligence tools and digital underwriting capabilities, including driving automation opportunities that improve underwriting efficiency, consistency, and data quality.
- Developing and leveraging AI-powered agents to support technical analysis, exposure assessment, policy reviews, portfolio monitoring, data extraction, and procedural compliance.
- Partnering with the CTO team to identify use cases that enhance underwriting effectiveness and decision support.
- Coaching and mentoring underwriters and associate underwriters on technical underwriting, broker management, and portfolio management.
- Sharing market intelligence, technical expertise and best practices across teams and regions.
- Supporting training initiatives and contributing to underwriting capability development.
- Driving a culture of accountability, knowledge sharing, and continuous improvement.
What You’ll Bring to the Role
- 7+ years of proven expertise in underwriting profitable NR&C business, including demonstrated success managing complex accounts;
- In depth understanding of regional/local MR&C insurance markets and competitor landscape;
- Established broker network and strong market reputation within Miami and the regional marketplace;
- Ability to assess risk inherent exposures and natural hazards relevant to NR&C;
- Experience managing underwriting books, including analyzing trends and scenario plans from which portfolio strategies can be developed and implemented;
- Analyzing current performance against various benchmarks with a view to ensure adequate progress and satisfactory performance, applying the knowledge of how the market operates and functions, the business needs and customer needs;
- Ability to analyze highly complex data, from multiple sources, in detail, identifying and resolving issues before they transpire;
- Experience utilizing advanced analytics, digital underwriting tools, or AI-enabled solution, including the ability to utilize AI tools to support day-to-day tasks, improve efficiency and contribute to data-driven decision making;
- Ability to express ideas and messages clearly, both written and verbally;
- Ability to build and foster relationships internally across the organization and externally with our broker partners;
- Ability to speak Spanish and/or Portuguese required; and
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (Civil, Mechanical, Electrical, Industrial, Petroleum, Mining, or related discipline).

The annualized base pay range for this role is $175,000 - $191,000. The annual base salary range represents a nationwide market range. The actual salary for this position may be above and will be determined by a number of factors, including the scope, complexity and location of the role; the skills, education, training, credentials and experience of the candidate. The base pay is just one component of the AzC total compensation package. As part of our comprehensive compensation and highly rated benefits programs, employees are also eligible for annual performance-based cash incentive awards.
