Job summary

City of Savannah seeks an Assistant Director of Transportation to lead major CIP projects, traffic safety initiatives, and GIS operations within the Savannah Department of Transportation.

The role reports to the Senior Director, with potential leadership succession to Senior Director and broad executive visibility with city leadership and elected officials. A competitive package includes bonuses, relocation support, and professional license reimbursement.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or equivalent.
• Six+ years of traffic or civil engineering management experience.
• Experience supervising staff and managing engineering programs.
• Georgia PE License or ability to obtain.
• Valid driver’s license with acceptable driving history.

Responsibilities

• Oversee Transportation CIP and capital projects.
• Coordinate private development review and rights‑of‑way permitting.
• Lead traffic engineering and safety improvement initiatives.
• Supervise engineering staff and manage consultant contracts.
• Support departmental budgeting and financial oversight.
• Provide technical guidance to developers, engineers and the public.
