Job summary

Veterans Health Administration (VA) in Augusta, GA is seeking an experienced physician to lead psychiatric and behavioral health services. The role involves executive leadership, clinical governance, and strategic planning within the Mental Health Service line.

The position requires a doctor of medicine or osteopathic medicine, full licensure in the United States, and residency in an approved core specialty.

Qualifications

• MD or DO required by VA standards
• Current, full, unrestricted medical license in the United States
• Completion of residency in an approved core specialty
• Board certification preferred for faculty/leadership roles
• Proficiency in spoken and written English

Responsibilities

• Provide executive-level leadership for psychiatric and behavioral health programs
• Oversee diagnostic evaluations, medication management, crisis intervention, and treatment planning
• Direct supervision and mentorship of psychiatrists, NP/PA, and residents
• Ensure compliance with VA, VHA, VISN, facility policies and accreditation standards
• Lead strategic planning, policy development, and resource allocation across mental health services
• Participate in system-wide interdisciplinary treatment meetings and care coordination initiatives
• Deliver direct psychiatric care when needed and maintain thorough documentation
