Job summary

Door County Government seeks a visionary leader to direct the Health and Human Services Department, guiding programs that support residents' well‑being and safety. You will oversee multiple divisions, set strategic priorities, and ensure fiscal discipline while maintaining service quality.

The role requires a master’s degree and extensive management experience, with a proven ability to secure funding, foster collaboration with partners, and present performance results to the County Board.

Qualifications

• Master’s degree in Social Work, Public Administration, or related field.
• Five years of professional experience in human services.
• Four years of progressive management experience including budgeting, strategic planning, and personnel oversight.
• Equivalent combinations of education, training, and experience may be considered.
• Experience in county or municipal human services agency is preferred.
• Knowledge of Wisconsin statutes related to health and human services, including Section 46.23.

Responsibilities

• Lead development, coordination, and administration of all programs within the department.
• Oversee the department's annual budget and fiscal compliance.
• Interpret and apply federal/state/local statutes affecting service delivery.
• Communicate with the County Administrator, Board, and agencies on key matters.
• Advise the Health and Human Services Board with agendas, reports, and policy recommendations.
• Supervise division managers and oversee personnel practices.
• Foster an inclusive, productive department culture.
• Establish partnerships to coordinate services and expand programs.
• Pursue grants and external funding to supplement resources.
• Present annual performance and impact reports to the County Board.
