Job summary

Lexington-Fayette Urban County Government is seeking a Division Director for Fire and Emergency Services to lead a large, city-wide program. You will supervise operations, set policy, manage investigations, EMS delivery, and scene response for major emergencies.

The role requires a Master's in fire science or related field, six years of supervisory firefighting experience, and Kentucky firefighter certification; on-call availability and compliance with safety and property rules are essential.

Qualifications

• Master's degree in fire science, municipal fire service administration, fire prevention and firefighting techniques or a related field.
• Minimum of six years of progressively responsible firefighting and supervisory experience; or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.

Responsibilities

• Develops and administers policies and guidelines for the operation and administration of the division.
• Directs enforcement of statutes, ordinances, codes, policies and regulations to assure safety.
• Directs investigations to determine the cause of fires and assists in arson investigations.
• Directs EMS provision in compliance with laws and policies.
• Responds to and directs activities at the scene of major fires or other emergencies.
• Directs inspection and condemnation of hazardous structures.
• Evaluates staffing needs and expansion of services.
• Evaluates need for construction of fire stations and purchase of equipment.
• Counsels with Assistant Fire Chiefs on problems related to firefighting services.
• Prepares and reviews reports, records and correspondence; submits budget requests and administers budget.
