Job summary

The Grand Traverse Band of Ottawa and Chippewa Indians seeks a Chief Executive Officer to lead day-to-day operations under the Tribal Council, providing executive guidance and strategic oversight across programs and departments.

The role requires strong financial acumen, budgeting, grants management, and compliance with federal and tribal regulations, plus the ability to work with the Tribal Council and community to advance goals.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration or Public Administration with 2-3 years of tribal government experience; or HS diploma/GED with 6 years of tribal government admin/management exp.
• Experience in fund accounting, indirect cost principles, grant writing, public speaking and financial/report writing.
• Advance knowledge of applicable laws, regulations, rules, procedures and administration.

Responsibilities

• Serve as principal assistant to the Tribal Chairman and direct representative of the Tribal Council.
• Handle critical management demands within tribal government and contribute to overall managerial effectiveness of programs.
• Assist the OMB with annual budgets and oversee budget preparation for programs.
• Oversee all operational areas of government programs via supervision of department managers.
• Serve as principal spokesperson for programs at Tribal Council meetings.
• Evaluate recommendations within compliance of federal and program regulations.
• Develop relationships with programs to support day-to-day operations.
• Resolve budget and policy differences; allocate resources and approve internal changes.
• Conduct staff meetings to improve communication and services for GTB members.
