Job summary

Masonic Homes of California, Covina campus, is seeking an Executive Director to provide senior leadership and operational oversight for day‑to‑day operations and overall performance. The ED oversees resident experience, culture, financial stewardship, regulatory compliance, and team engagement from Covina, reporting to the COO.

The role requires a minimum of five years supervisory experience in a senior living setting, strong communication, budgeting, and strategic planning skills.

Qualifications

The pay range is $210,000 to $250,000 with a bonus opportunity and higher compensation available based on experience and licenses.

Job Summary

The Executive Director (ED) provides senior leadership and operational oversight for the Covina campus of the Masonic Homes of California. The Executive Director is accountable for leading day-to-day operations and overall performance of the community, including resident experience, culture, financial stewardship, regulatory compliance, and team member engagement, to deliver a seamless, high-quality campus experience. This position is based in Covia and reports to the Chief Operating Officer (COO).

Essential Functions

Management & Campus Leadership

• Provides executive leadership and operational oversight, ensuring excellence in independent living, assisted living, skilled nursing, and all aspects of campus operations.
• Directly leads and manages department leaders, ensuring clarity of roles, accountability, and performance expectations.
• Ensures strong collaboration with other MHC communities to ensure consistency and best practices.
• Recruits, develops, and retains high-performing department leaders; ensures appropriate delegation of authority, accountability, and coverage during absences.
• Builds and sustains strong working relationships across the campus and shared services teams, fostering collaboration, trust, and effective communication.
• Maintains productive relationships with external partners supporting resident services and care.
• Remains current on best practices in senior living, assisted living, and skilled nursing through professional development.

Sales & Marketing

• Maintains occupancy targets in alignment with approved budgets.
• Partners with the team to strengthen brand reputation, referral relationships, and community visibility.
• Ensures both communities consistently reflect a high-quality, welcoming, and “tour-ready” environment.

Programs, Culture & Resident Experience

• Provides oversight of resident programs, services, and amenities that promote engagement, independence, dignity, and well-being across both communities.
• Creates and sustains a culture of warmth, respect, accountability, and collaboration for residents, families, and team members.
• Builds effective, motivated teams grounded in trust, shared purpose, and continuous improvement.
• Maintains open communication with resident councils, committees, family members, and representatives to address concerns and continuously improve services.
• Leads and participates in campus-wide quality improvement, safety, and risk management initiatives.

Compliance & Regulatory Oversight

• Ensures compliance with all applicable federal, state, and local regulations governing independent living. assisted living and skilled nursing operations.
• Leads campus preparedness for surveys, inspections, audits, and reviews.
• Oversees the development and implementation of plans of correction and communicates outcomes as required.
• Ensures policies, procedures, job descriptions, and performance evaluations are current, accurate, and consistently applied.
• Collaborates with Human Resources to ensure compliance with labor laws, training requirements, and employment regulations.

Financial Management

• Operates in accordance with approved budgets and financial plans.
• Reviews and interprets monthly financial statements and communicates results to the COO.
• Works closely with Finance on budget development, audits, purchasing controls, and cost-management strategies.
• Authorizes major purchases in accordance with established policies and procedures.
• Assists the CFO and President in evaluating insurance coverage and financial risk.
• Leads the annual operating budget development process in collaboration with Finance and department leaders.

Governance & External Relations

• With the President, serves as senior staff leadership to MHC b and supports board goverrnance responsibilities as applicable.
• Prepares written and oral reports and recommendations on community performance, risks, and strategic opportunities.
• Represents the communities with governmental agencies, third-party payers, and external partners, or designates appropriate representatives as needed.
• Participates in relevant civic, professional, and community organizations that support the mission and visibility of the campus.

Resident Care & Quality Outcomes

• Active Participant in Risk Management, Compliance and Safety committees.
• Communicates with Risk Manager and senior leadership regarding incidents and other areas of potential risk or dissatisfaction.
• Ensures adequate security, staffing, and access to services to meet resident needs.
• Promotes resident-centered care that respects individual rights, dignity, and quality of life while maintaining safety and compliance.
• Serves as a visible and accessible leader for residents and families; reviews and responds to complaints and grievances in a timely and respectful manner.
• Ensures residents experience coordinated, compassionate transitions as needs change.

Skills, Abilities And Experience

• Minimum of five (5) years experience in a supervisory capacity in a senior living community including independent, assisted and skilled nursing care. Working knowledge of the senior living industry.
• Effective verbal and written communication skills to interact with all levels of management, other employees, residents, families and outside contacts; effective managerial and interpersonal skills; demonstrated fiscal and budgetary skills; ability to plan, organize, and implement work and be flexible enough to shift priorities quickly.

Educational Requirements/Licenses/Certificates

Any combination of education and experience that would provide the necessary knowledge and abilities listed, typically:

• Bachelor's Degree is necessary.
• An advanced degree in Public Health Administration or Business Administration, or a health-related degree is preferred but not required.
• Must possess California RCFE and Nursing Home Administrator licenses and meet the licensure requirements of the State of CA.
