Job summary

American Library Association, home to the American Association of School Librarians (AASL), seeks a full-time Executive Director to guide vision, operations, and financial stewardship. This role drives strategic priorities, governance, and advocacy for school librarianship within the association and the broader education community.

Qualifications

• A four-year degree is required; MLIS or related graduate degree preferred.
• Minimum seven years of progressively responsible management experience in an association, non-profit, or member-driven environment is strongly preferred.
• Experience supervising and managing strong staff teams.
• Demonstrated credibility and expertise in school librarianship or related educational fields preferred.

Responsibilities

• Lead the advancement of the AASL strategic plan and oversee division operations.
• Represent AASL within ALA and externally, strengthening partnerships with educators and policymakers.
• Collaborate with the AASL Board and committees to advance priorities and governance.
• Oversee financial stewardship, budget planning, and the biennial national conference.
• Ensure adherence to policies and drive organizational efficiency and accountability.
