Executive Director, Planned Giving

Job Description
  • Lead and design a system-wide planned giving program for all BILH affiliates, ensuring industry best practices and maximizing charitable contributions.
  • Develop multi-year strategic plans and goals to drive programmatic growth across hospital units.
  • Partner with each hospital’s development and leadership teams to educate constituents on the importance of planned giving and to build a strong pipeline of prospects.
  • Collaborate with major-gift and prospect-management efforts to cultivate, solicit, and secure planned gifts ranging from $5-8 million, including bequests, trusts, and gift annuities.
  • Create a consistent web presence, marketing plan, and Legacy Society for planned gifts at each hospital, and develop educational and stewardship events to grow interest and membership.
  • Design and implement complex strategies that secure gifts of $100,000+ for capital and program priorities, with a cultivation and stewardship plan aligned with each hospital’s vision.
  • Enhance operational efficiency by establishing systems and processes from gift documentation to reporting that meet BILH policies and standards.
  • Serve as a member of the BILH Philanthropy Senior Leadership Team, advancing the system and affiliate institution’s mission.
  • Develop volunteer leadership and advisory councils, and produce major proposals, solicitation letters, and other materials to support planned-giving prospects and donors.
  • Maintain high-quality relationships with hospital philanthropy leaders, board members, and staff, encouraging planned gifts and advancing institutional priorities.
  • Conduct face-to-face prospect meetings, aiming for an average of eight visits per month.
Education

Bachelor’s degree required; master’s degree in a related field preferred.

Over 10 years of development experience required, with 3-5 years of supervisory/management experience.

Proven track record of implementing strategies that substantially increase revenue through planned-giving vehicles.

Skills, Knowledge & Abilities
  • Strong knowledge of the financial and legal requirements of planned giving.
  • Demonstrated ability to engage and utilize leaders and volunteers to achieve program goals.
  • Successful track record in building trust with donors and colleagues.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication, proposal-writing skills, and strong interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to travel and work occasional evenings or weekends.
  • Advanced proficiency with Microsoft applications and web-based applications; capable of producing complex documents, performing analysis, and maintaining databases.
  • Entrepreneurial, articulate, highly motivated professional with a record of closing six- and seven-figure gifts in a complex environment.
Preferred Qualifications & Skills
  • Knowledge of information systems supporting fundraising activities.
  • Ability to prioritize and coordinate multiple projects with minimal supervision.
  • Experience raising funds for a capital campaign.
Pay Range

$149,989.00 USD - $215,010.00 USD
