Responsibilities

  • Set and drive the strategic direction for a comprehensive outcomes and research program, including clinical research and data infrastructure for congenital heart disease care.
  • Recruit and mentor research colleagues in successful grant writing and acquisition and build a high-performing team.
  • Oversee the design and conduct of clinical research studies (prospective and retrospective) and clinical registries and databases, ensuring feasibility and alignment with program priorities.
  • Lead the development and implementation of data collection, data management, and analytics processes, including integration of clinical, administrative, and patient‑reported data sources.
  • Partner with quality and clinical operations teams to design, implement, and evaluate quality improvement initiatives that are informed by data and research findings.
  • Disseminate research and outcomes findings to internal and external audiences through reports, presentations, manuscripts, dashboards, visualizations, and other communication tools.
  • Train faculty, staff, and trainees in research methods, data interpretation, and best practices in outcomes and quality research.
  • Foster and create collaborations with Dell Medical School departments, UT Austin partners, and Ascension Texas to advise complex and strategic research and quality initiatives.
  • Oversee, prioritize, and activate research initiatives that lead to high-impact peer-reviewed publications, conference presentations, and extramural grant funding. Work with the Sponsored Programs Office on behalf of the researchers.
  • Ensure the quality of research work and data, drive research excellence, and maintain research team compliance with relevant regulations and best practices, including human subjects protections, data governance, and institutional policies.

Description

The Director of Clinical Analytics, Research, and Outcomes willlead a multidisciplinary team that includes clinical researchcoordinators and quality and outcomes specialists. The ExecutiveDirector will oversee these efforts at Dell Children's MedicalCenter and collaborate across a comprehensive healthcare platformthat includes a broad range of services. The Executive Directorwill partner with clinical faculty to accomplish academic and carequality initiatives. These initiatives will expand researchinitiatives through collaborative engagements across hospitalsections as well as other aligned stakeholders within theUniversity of Texas at Austin and Ascension Texas hospitals.

The primary goal of this position is to build sustainable, rigorousoutcomes and research programs that advance the science anddelivery of care for patients with congenital heart disease and their families. This will include establishing high‑qualityclinical research, a robust data infrastructure, and a continuousquality measurement platform. The incumbent will be responsible fordeveloping and maintaining data systems to measure key outcomes,leading prospective and retrospective studies, pursuing extramuralfunding, and partnering with clinical and quality teams totranslate findings into practice.

This position is a faculty‑level role at the Assistant Professorlevel or above, with active participation in the education andtraining of undergraduate, graduate, and medical students;residents; postdoctoral fellows; and other trainees, as well asparticipation in the academic activities of the Departments ofCardiovascular and Thoracic Surgery and Pediatrics.

  • 5+ years of formal leadership or management experience.
  • Clinical background and experience
  • Experience representing outcomes and clinical research withexecutive leadership and external partners.
  • Experience working on multiple fast‑paced research projectsacross the project lifecycle, from study design throughdissemination.
  • Excellent communication skills, including the ability totranslate complex data and research findings for diverseaudiences.
