Job summary

Stonewall Columbus seeks an experienced Executive Director to guide the organization through its next chapter, strengthening leadership, strategy, and fundraising. The ED will balance mission delivery with sustainability, advance IDEA, and deepen community relationships across Central Ohio.

The role requires visionary leadership, staff development, and robust financial oversight to ensure long-term success of programs including Pride, community center, and outreach efforts.

Qualifications

• Significant leadership experience in a nonprofit, community-based, advocacy, public-sector, or similar mission-driven organization.
• Experience managing staff, budgets, programs, and external relationships.
• Commitment to LGBTQ+ communities and inclusion, diversity, equity, and accountability (IDEA).
• Ability to translate strategy into priorities, plans, and accountability.
• Experience in fundraising, donor cultivation, and external relations.
• Strong communication, collaboration, and stakeholder engagement skills.

Responsibilities

• Provide clear organizational leadership aligning mission, programs, operations, and priorities with community needs.
• Clarify Stonewall’s year-round role and translate vision into priorities, plans, and accountability.
• Assess capacity, set realistic priorities, and balance growth with staff well-being.
• Recruit, develop, and retain a diverse staff; foster a trauma-informed culture.
• Oversee finances, HR, operations, risk management, and internal controls.
• Develop annual operating budget and provide transparent financial reporting.
• Evaluate programs with data to determine service delivery and partnerships.
• Strengthen and diversify revenue through individual gifts, major gifts, foundations, and partnerships.
• Center IDEA across culture, programs, fundraising, and communications.
• Serve as spokesperson, ambassador, fundraiser, and advocate for the organization.
• Collaborate with LGBTQ+-serving organizations and external partners; position as trusted convener.
• Guide governance with Board on fiduciary, strategic, fundraising, and ambassadorial responsibilities.
• Oversee Community Center operations and expand its role as a welcoming hub.
