Job summary

The Lowell Association for the Blind in Lowell, MA, seeks an Executive Director to lead the organization as chief executive officer, overseeing strategy, finances, programs, staff development, and community engagement.

The ideal candidate will balance long-term planning with hands-on leadership, reporting to the Board of Directors and guiding LAB toward growth and impact in the Greater Lowell area.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in business, marketing, management, nonprofit leadership, social work, public administration, or related field; a master’s degree is preferred.
  • Candidates with 10 or more years of relevant nonprofit experience will also be considered.
  • Five to ten years of leadership experience, preferably in nonprofit or human-services organization.
  • Strong financial management and budgeting experience.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong relationship-building and public-speaking abilities.
  • Ability to manage both strategic priorities and day-to-day operations.
  • Proficiency with technology and the ability to quickly learn new software and systems.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement LAB’s strategic plan with the Board of Directors.
  • Lead, mentor, and develop staff while fostering an inclusive and collaborative workplace.
  • Oversee programs and services to ensure they effectively fulfill LAB’s mission.
  • Identify opportunities for program growth, innovation, and continuous improvement.
  • Monitor program outcomes and ensure compliance with grant requirements, regulations, and program standards.
  • Develop and manage the annual budget.
  • Oversee financial operations, reporting, controls, and regulatory compliance.
  • Provide monthly financial reports to the Board Treasurer.
  • Lead fundraising efforts, including grants, individual giving, sponsorships, corporate partnerships, and events.
  • Cultivate relationships with donors, foundations, public officials, and community partners.
  • Recruit, hire, supervise, and support staff and volunteers.
  • Maintain effective organizational policies, procedures, and internal systems.
  • Serve as the primary liaison to the Board of Directors and support board meetings, committees, recruitment, and development.
  • Represent LAB at community and statewide events, public forums, and policy discussions.
  • Build partnerships with local agencies, healthcare providers, schools, government leaders, and advocacy organizations.
  • Promote accessibility, inclusion, and equity for individuals who are blind or visually impaired.
