California Virtual Academies (CAVA) invites applications and nominations for the role of Executive Director of Human Resources, a pivotal leadership position responsible for guiding and evolving the full people function across a complex, multi-site, and virtual enterprise. The Executive Director will shape and execute a people-first strategy aligned with organizational values and long-term business objectives, ensuring that talent, culture, and performance remain central to the organization’s success.
CAVA is a tuition-free, full-time online public school system serving students in Transitional Kindergarten through 12th grade across California. Since 2002, CAVA has been committed to fostering academic growth and social-emotional development by combining rigorous, standards-based curriculum with innovative, technology-driven instruction tailored to the unique needs and learning styles of each student. The school emphasizes meaningful partnerships between families and educators, providing interactive daily lessons, live teacher support, and a rich range of learning pathways designed to prepare students for success in college, careers, and life. More than 22,000 students and 1,400 employees are part of CAVA’s ecosystem.
The Executive Director of Human Resources serves as the organization’s Chief Human Resource Officer, providing strategic direction and oversight for the full HR function. The Executive Director leads all HR operations, talent systems, and recruitment strategy; partners closely with executive leadership, directors, academic teams, principals, and Heads of Schools; and acts as a trusted advisor on workforce planning, performance, and organizational effectiveness. As a steward of culture and inclusion, this leader brings a consultative, forward-thinking mindset to transforming both HR's impact and perception, fostering a high-performing, inclusive culture that supports employees and advances the organization’s mission.
This is a full-time, virtual position that offers flexibility in residence with California HR experience strongly preferred. Working hours align with the Pacific Time Zone. The salary range for this role is $150,000-$175,000 annually with bonus eligibility and includes a generous benefits package.
