Job summary

University of Illinois Chicago seeks an Executive Director for the Office of the Vice Chancellor for Administrative Services (OVCAS) Human Resources in Chicago. This role leads recruitment, staffing, payroll, training, compliance and employee relations across the unit.

The Executive Director will supervise a team, coordinate with Campus HR on ethics filings and FOIA responses, and implement standard operating procedures across HR services while aligning with university policies and labor

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in human resources, business administration, or related field.
• HR Professional certification designation (SHRM-CP/SHRM-SCP or HRCI-SPHR/PHR).
• At least ten (10) years of experience in human resources with supervisory experience.
• Experience with union contracts and knowledge of federal, state, and local labor laws.
• Skilled with employee relations, training, coaching, policy development and progressive discipline.
• Ability to interact effectively with people of diverse backgrounds.

Responsibilities

• Oversee the HR operations of OVCAS, including recruitment, staffing, workforce planning, onboarding, training leadership and supervisors in HR areas, discipline and employee relations, leave coordination and reporting, and SOP enforcement.
• Direct a team of HR associates to meet unit goals and provide leadership.
• Approve and handle HR transactions and policy approvals as needed.
• Provide workforce planning input using industry standards and unit policies with internal/external partners.
• Develop training for OVCAS leadership and supervise compliance reporting and improvements.
• Draft and socialize SOPs for HR operations and ensure adherence.
