Job summary

The Colorado Department of Corrections seeks an Executive Director, the CEO of the department, to oversee administration, programs and strategic plans. The role includes directing prison operations, adult parole and related divisions, and managing state correctional facilities.

You will set long-range vision, lead budgeting and resource planning, and collaborate with victims’ rights advocates, local governments, and communities to advance safety and accountability.

Qualifications

• A bachelor’s or advanced degree in a related field or equivalent. (Must-have)
• Minimum 5+ years in executive leadership overseeing jail/prison or corrections systems at local/state/federal level
• Experience developing and managing budgets to achieve program goals
• Demonstrated ability to drive process improvements across large organizations
• Proven track record collaborating with diverse stakeholders to meet strategic objectives

Responsibilities

• Ensure long-range vision and strategy toward the mission
• Provide leadership in program, organizational and financial planning
• Build trust with stakeholders across victims’ rights advocates, local governments and community
• Coach and develop leaders within the organization
• Create plans for offender population management including parole and reentry programs
• Direct and oversee the department’s budget
• Maintain compliant operations and fiscal discipline
• Attract and retain a diverse, high-quality staff
• Appoint an inspector general and investigators under executive oversight
• Brief the Governor’s Office on policy issues
• Support legislative agenda impacting operations
