Job summary

Kennebec Land Trust seeks an experienced Executive Director to lead the organization, guide strategy, support staff, and advance fundraising for long-term sustainability. Based in central Maine with travel to properties, this role partners with the Board to strengthen conservation efforts and community impact.

The position requires strong leadership, financial stewardship, donor relations, and a genuine commitment to land conservation. A degree and nonprofit leadership experience are preferred.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree or equivalent professional experience; advanced degree preferred
• Significant senior leadership experience in nonprofit; strategic thinking and governance skills
• Commitment to land conservation and KLT's mission
• Experience with nonprofit financial management and budgeting
• Demonstrated fundraising success and donor cultivation
• Experience leading and developing staff
• Ability to build collaborative relationships with diverse stakeholders
• Proficiency with current technology and systems; driving efficiency
• Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills

Responsibilities

• Provide overall executive and operational leadership to advance KLT's mission and long-term sustainability
• Collaborate with the Board of Directors on governance, strategy, and performance reporting
• Lead and develop a high-performing staff in a collaborative, inclusive culture
• Oversee financial management, budgeting, and long-term sustainability with the Treasurer and Finance Committee
• Lead fundraising efforts with donors, foundations, and partners
• Serve as KLT's primary spokesperson and represent the organization publicly
• Develop partnerships to advance KLT's mission and impact
• Support land conservation, stewardship, education, and community engagement with staff
• Ensure compliance with laws, Land Trust Alliance standards, accreditation, and board policies
