Job summary

Friends of Rose Canyon seeks an Executive Director to lead our conservation and community engagement initiatives in San Diego. The role balances program oversight, fundraising, and advocacy to protect the Rose Canyon ecosystem.

Reporting to the Board of Directors, you will supervise two part-time staff, manage budgets, and coordinate with city agencies and volunteers at Rose Canyon events. Flexible hours with some remote work and evening/weekend commitments are expected.

Qualifications

• Demonstrated experience showing passion for nature, conservation, and community
• Minimum 3 years’ experience in nonprofit leadership or management
• Demonstrated experience in fundraising, grant writing, donor cultivation, or related activities

Responsibilities

• Advocacy and Outreach: coordinate community outreach and engagement; monitor plans that may impact Rose Canyon; advocate at meetings and coalitions; plan and host education events.
• Fundraising and Communications: research and write grant proposals; plan annual fundraising; cultivate donors; manage donor databases.
• Organizational Leadership: work with the Board to advance mission; implement strategic priorities; report on programs and finances.
• Program and Project Management: oversee habitat restoration and nature education walks in coordination with coordinators and city partners.
• Administration: manage budget, payroll, and financial reporting; ensure compliance; maintain data systems and website.
