Job summary

RFCUNY seeks an Executive Director to lead AI-BIOME, a NSF-funded Programmable Cloud Laboratory at CCNY and ASRC, guiding strategic growth, partnerships, and long-term sustainability.

The role requires an advanced degree and 8–10 years’ leadership experience in complex research organizations, with expertise in budgets, grants, and inter-institutional collaboration. On-site leadership in NYC is expected.

Qualifications

• Advanced degree in science, engineering, computer science, data science, public administration, business, or related field.
• 8–10 years of progressively responsible leadership experience in complex scientific or research organizations.
• Experience managing federally funded programs, interdisciplinary centers, shared scientific facilities, or comparable research infrastructure.
• Experience with budgets, grants, contracts, and multi-institutional collaborations.
• Ability to build partnerships across academia, industry, government, and nonprofit sectors.
• Exceptional leadership, organizational, interpersonal, and written and oral communication skills.
• Experience with research administration, compliance, and working with federal funding agencies.
• Experience in laboratory automation, scientific software, AI, data science, or digital research infrastructure is desirable.

Responsibilities

• Provide strategic leadership for AI-BIOME and its growth.
• Develop partnerships with NSF, agencies, industry, and partner institutions.
• Align strategic vision with organizational priorities and milestones.
• Oversee budgets, NSF reporting, reviews, and advisory activities.
• Collaborate with CCNY and ASRC leadership to integrate infrastructure.
• Foster inclusive, collaborative organizational culture.
• Ensure execution of research, education, workforce development, and outreach missions.
• Manage multi-institutional collaborations and external relations.
